  • Cash tourny CA would you play?

I've been running this idea though my head for the past 5-6 months now.

How does everyone feel about having an ongoing cash tournament that could be played day or night 24/7.

    It would work like this.

    1. A website would be setup to handle player accounts (CreditCard, Paypal etc required)
    2. You deposit money into your account to play/challange (i.e $5.00+)

    3. You can challange anyone whos registered with the site and place a bet up to $2.00 but only as low as $0.50

    4.Winner takes all

    5.Wash rinse repeat.

This would need some refining of course but I dont see any reason why anyone wouldn't want to have the ability to make some extra change off playing Quake. If you choose not to play for money that would be your choice. Lets hear what you guys think.

P.S I've already setup a website testing the payment/account functions and this is 100% do-able
and if you think needing a creditcard/paypal is to much to ask this simply wouldn't be for you

I'd consider putting money into TDM or perhaps CTF, but not CA.

      1) Money corrupts things.

      2) Anything like this that had a measure of success would be loaded with cheaters. Mindz worries that a few players cheat in scrimmages, add money into the equation and it would be 10x worse.

      3) Why would someone who isn't in the upper 2% of Quake skill participate? I mean, I don't suck at Quake but some players like Frenzy, Tical, Spoon are super-human and could probably beat 2 of me.

Thats why you can decline other's challanges

and there would be a "player level" implemented into this as in higher players can't challenge lower players, you would have to challange someone in your skill group

Well, here is the thing. It's a great idea. I don't think skill implementations should take place because, as you said before, anyone can decline the challenge. This will separate all players into skill groups while still keeping good vs. better team matches possible (maybe some will agree to play 2x3). Cheating might become a problem when money is involved, that's true too. Also, question of secure deposits and transfers might arise in some people's heads depending on how all of it will be done.

I'd say as long as such a system can be set up for free it might be worth a shot and those who are willing to use it can go ahead. But I wouldn't bet on it being widely used on day-to-day basis.

I don't have any of these things I can participate with, but I yes'd it anyway. Maybe use cheatfree and opengl32.dll hack prevention at the same time...

                Gambling leads to compulsion.

                I can't participate,

Well, I tried this... remember? I offered a Cash Tourney, 3-3 100$ to the winning team, splitting it 33$ a piece, I only got 2 clan signups, so maybe the 1-1 aspect may take off better. There has to be more than money involved to get the community to uprise and take part in it, but what is that thing!? Who knows, hopefully you have better luck than I did.

This wouldnt be half bad,but the biggest problem I see is "I lost for whatever reason,im not paying you shit" , or simply people wont pay out.

Its a novel idea but there are quite a bit of contingencies you'll need to think of before you set anything like this into motion or loose in the community, because if somethings goes wrong, they are going to expect you to fix it,and the last thing Quake1 needs is bad press dealing with gambling, which is what this will be.Sort of like the race tracks, except, your the dogs.

How about setting up a Quake paypal account and giving a trustworthy refferee your information (obviously only put x amount of money in where x is the amount you bet on your win of the match), and then the refferee changes the money over to the winner's account. Now he can take that money out and put it somewhere else..

I think this would be a great lan-sponsered idea, but openly on the internet would be less secure for sure. Your giving the $100 reasons to cheat. I think a simple website that hosted the emcompasing stats and online demo archive with quakeTV streams would make more $$$
