  • Quake Arcade

    I never knew about this before. Two years after Quake was released for the PC, an arcade Quake was being made. It would be meant for tournament play, with modified deathmatch levels and a new weapon. Monsters would drop special items when killed. It also had a prize printer that would print out a ticket for whomever won.

    It would have 7 buttons, and controlled by a trackball. It could linked up to multiple arcade cabinets for more than 1 player.

    However, the company that was manufacturing it, Lazer-Tron was bought out and supposedly only 20 prototype machines exist. After that, any future plans for the game were dropped.

    Information on Quake Arcade can be found here: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?...Q&game_id=9188

    Interesting, considering Quake2's q2dm1 The Edge was made for the arcade version of Quake, which was canceled, so it got moved to Q2.

    Judging by a screenshot, it was running the missionpacks as well, as I believe I do see The Last Bastion from Dissolution of Eternity there (the 'kennels' as seen in the 2nd or 3rd clip in the demo reel I think).

        One of these was sold at eBay a year ago or so. I tried getting an image of the CD by the buyer but he wouldn't do it.

          It doesnt suprise me in the least bit.I remember watching that eBay item specifically, you wasnt the only one who attempted getting a copy,im sure many people attempted getting a copy.One can hope a generous buyer will get their hands on a complete arcade or a disc and will distro somewhere online.

          (ps : I wasnt the one who attempted getting a copy,pretty sure JackHole attempted it)

                  Game is on its way.

                  Well, I tracked down the company that bought out Lazer-tron and contacted the owner, there are a few copies of the prototype software left. Kind of hi-priced but I am going to get it anyways. This is going to be the crown jewel in my Arcade collection after I find a few more pieces. Like the Marquee. I might have to have one made from someplace but.... to have a working prototype in my collection will rule!

                    I got it today. :d Drug out the old quicksilver and installed it had to do a few tweaks but it plays nice. set it for 1 Quarter for 2 Minutes + bonus time for kills. I am going to have fun with this one.

                        so you play it on a computer? i find it strange that you can use your computer to play a game that was meant to be played on a custom built arcade system

                            I don't think so, if you read the above links, you'll find this part;

                            Technical
                            The game is powered by a complete Pentium PC inside the game. A keyboard and mouse can be found immediately below the control panel (not accessible by the player, however). The PC contains a Quantum 3D video card used to display the game's graphics. There are a number of settings that affect options not available in the original PC version of the game. At least two cabinets can be linked together for deathmatch competitions.
                            It seems it ran on a normal PC so getting it run on any PC wouldntbe hard, cept if it was coded just for the specific graphics card.

                              Do you have any pictures of the arcade? What is the new weapon that was in this version? How does it play with a trackball?
