It looked like regular QuakeWorld to me.

No offense to the QuakeWorld guys, but to host a "lan" game on a 20-foot screen with a simple static camera view is weak. (I guess they are trying to make a visual progression of their achievements Q1-2-3- to the quack4..) They could have ran CRMOD 6.4 and a ticrate of 0.002 and had the feel of QuakeWorld but a better camera system for the viewers...

Oh well atleast quake1 got some game time.

Why would anyone want to see anything other than the pov of the players in the championship match? Everyone at QuakeCon is a quake player. I think it goes without saying that they would prefer to see what the player is seeing.

I personally was upset that they used vanilla graphics when they had all the graphical enhancements of ezquake at their fingertips through a mouse driven GUI.

I think there is the recognition that Quake is Quake, and what I mean by that is that the graphical enhancements in engines like ezQuake and the textures and so forth are not, by definition, Quake (but an "after-market" modification to the game).

I always think about this dualism. I do like some of the graphical modifications in different engines but I also think about how the real Quake is what GLQuake and WinQuake look like.

Cataklysque, you should have gone to QuakeCon and beat all those guys and took home the $20,000 :d :d :d :d

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I would have enjoyed the tournament and the BYOC, I just don't have the time to game like I used to

As far as the tournament goes, I would probably be put in a group w/ toxic, fox, dahang, or purri and get eliminated right away. I'd be considered a newbie since the last tournament I competed in on LAN was in 1999.

I was disapointed that there wasn't one QW player who stepped up and practiced Q2/3/4. KovaaK held it down on the QW front, but FienD and Thump4 lost QW games to guys who haven't even touched QW prior to the announcement of the Q Damage tournament.

                Kind of rambled, oh well.

No offense to you, but if the people at the QuakeCon had setup everything better we could have had ezTV live mvd streaming.

TRUE, even a split screen multiview [player's pov][cinamatic view] could have been nice. Cat: I noticed they were using a skybox OH MY! And where's the end game STATS?! But as Baker stated, they wanted to represent Quake 1 with stock quake 1 graphics....

the videos with the actual game footage from start to finish are on sassa's link

QuakeCon was garbage this year.. coverage was absolute zero
no scorebots, no brackets, no EZTV/GTV/Q4TV, no live stream..

the NA QW players were disappointing (except maybe Kovaak)
the only enjoyable games were Purri (q2 legend) vs DaHang in Quake2 and toxic vs fox in Quake3 (toxic was an absolute beast with perfect LG).. other than that only boring blowouts
one quake to rule them all.

Despite QuakeCon's flaws this year, you have to admit that watching Toxjq get pwnt in Quake 1 was quite entertaining. Take that Quake 4 newb!
