Has Clan HDZ DM displaced CRMOD.com?

I don't see much activity at CRMOD.com any more and it looks like Clan HDZ DM is fairly active.

Has Clan HDZ entirely displaced CRMOD.com?

If so, why has Clan HDZ DM displaced quake.crmod.com?

1. Is it because ProQuake cheat-free is such a deterrent and eventually DM players got sick of fighting it?

2. or is just ping related?

3. Or am I all wrong about this and Essentrix going down (making quake.crmod.com unavailable) a few days a week ago has just created this illusion?

It is because of an unorganized effort by people who ping lower there, e.g. Zild, Whitlock, Drama, and Krix's other minions.

They basically split the DM community and relegated half of us to moving on since it was less enjoyable given that we'd ping terribly ourselves in comparison. So now less skilled players DM.

That is in summation the problem that I, Nov, Cata, and many others had with it.

Well, that doesn't sound entirely positive.

I guess on the upside is that some of the players that weren't previously playing DM are now (although I remember earlier in the year the # of participants was insanely high).

Wow, Cat never complained to me about playing at HDZ; his ping at CRMOD was ~10 and at HDZ it was ~40-50. I personally feel that more people ping less than 100 at HDZ than at CRMOD, sure some people's ping goes up from 10 or 20 to 50 or 60, but surely that can't be why they are complaining.

Now, if it's not their ping but if it is packet loss or bad routing resulting in packet loss I can see their frustration; however, I don't hear people complaining about pings at Rage as much as I do at HDZ, and Rage is at the same exact place, just a different box.

Typically those in the north will ping better to the former and those in the south will ping better to the latter. I'm pretty sure Krix pings better at CRMOD, as he's from Washington; I think ASC pings better at CRMOD as well as he is from Canada.

I ping 80-95 at crmod and 50-65 at HDZ. I will play at either one. I don't care. I havn't been playing much quake lately anyway.

Yeah.. Unfortunately there are some people that won't play with anything higher than 18 or so. It seems that playing at HDZ benefits a lot more people than playing at CRMOD.

I ping 70 to hdz and i spike between 20-40 (average: 30) on crmod.

Nobody's asking for sympathy. Nobody's asking for anything other than a good time once in a while via gaming, and if that is less possible due to circumstances, people move on.

I just remembered something, HDZ was the DM server back in 2003-2004. And before that, I believe it was the Teamplay server.
