I'm testing a new Quake server mod tonight but as I'm not too far from you I'll try and pop by for a quick visit later if that helps.

    Kind regards

    Monty
P.S. Since GCHQ went down it's good to see another netquake server [hopefully] up in the UK!

I could connect just fine. However the server was "stuck" at intermission (for me at least) and probably because progs 1.06 (the standard Quake progs) is -- well -- I don't recommend running that (lots of bugs).

If you intend to run a vanilla DM server, you might want to load up CRMOD http://www.crmod.com/

      Btw, welcome to the forums.

/I imagine the server is in Europe; my ping was 175

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

The IP address suggests london area.

Baker's got a point with the CRMod. Although there are a number of mods you could use it isn't difficult to use and gives you a little more control over the management and generel 'feel' of your server. Plus it gives you the ability to add approx 10 custom maps, most of the european players I know of are VERY big on custom maps, so if you want them to play there my advice would be to start picking out some very playable dm based maps. Start with Ultrav, Aerowalk and Skull and go on from there. If you run the CRMod then players can vote to change maps at any time. If it's any help to you, the (norhern european) servers such as Bigfoot (running a development of the Runequake mod in germany admined by Peg and Jackhammer) has 130+ maps, flanders (3 servers running the Slide, Whitehot and Rquake mods in belgium admined by Polarite) has dozens and Damage (a Q1 DMP test server in England admined by me and soon Peg, Jackhammer and Sir Henry) is being tested with about 100. So as you can see they like their custom maps . Personally, I feel the same way as IMHO it helps to keep the game fresh and I just can't bring myself to play another game on DM4 or DM6 .

You can control other settings in-game and you also have the option to select practice and match modes as I recall. (Forgive me it's been a while since I ran the SPC/Q1 servers). But if I can help, or you want me to produce a CRMod Server for you then please let me know.

        Kind regards

        Monty

I connect but no map loads. it just sits at the command-line. No big deal, if its in UK then its probably too far to play.

same here, u need to put

                      map dm3

or whatever map u want to default to in quake/id1/autoexec.cfg

or (gamedir)/autoexec.cfg if you are using -game SOMETHING in the commandline.
