I was watching team action over at RAGE CLAN ARENA & someone kept calling someone on his team a baller.

I have never heard that before....

i think a baller is a fighter in hip urban speak (wouldn't go so far as to say ebonics, though one might). it might be derived from brawl. a high ball is 1920s slang for a cocktail, and probably my favorite phrase of all time

It can also mean you have mad skills on the basketball court. So i bet they were saying this certain player has mad skills in quake.
