Did you make the jump to Hard Mode on your first try?

Think back to 1996 or whenever you first played quake. Most likely you:

• couldn't see anything even with brightness on full
• used the keyboard only
• didn't enable always run

If you can remember then vote. I'm 99% sure that I completely goofed up on that jump on my first try. Like I jumped from the sides instead of the very middle. I probably didn't hold down the run button either.

edit: The poll asks if you made the jump across the lava pit, not if you played hard mode.

I first played Quake around 1998 when I got my first computer. I had +mlook, always run, I had it all. I'm pretty sure the first map I played was E2M1 on Normal. Being 8 years old, I did manage to die...

The first time I tried the jump I think I lucked out. Although, sometimes even today I melt in that little pool of lava

I'm definately sure I fell in on the first time. Back then even Easy mode was a pain in the ass for me.
