for a while now it was packed late at night, now you can rarely get a 3v3 or more.

Half the server population has suddenly diminished after the release.. some of the more "common" players are now gone..

    sure makes you wonder..
Maybe, but this is an over generalization. Simply because this time of the year I have noticed alot of servers empty out. RAGE isnt running the modified pq atm so why didnt the cheaters flock there? They'd have to be a total loser to not be able to compete at all without hacks, but then losers use cheats. Also, could it be people are playing that NEW game they just got for Christmas? If you keep saying Quake is DEAD, in such a finite manner, people will start to believe you.

Maybe you should have changed your assertion on the observation by saying...
"I dont know if any of you have noticed, but the anti-cheat measures seem to be a success! 90% of the cheating fools are gone! So, drop that Xbox controller, turn off that IPOD, forget ET:QW and get you happy holiday ass over to speaknow .. NOW!"

You are making the exact same assumption. In your rebuttal you've already come to conclude they are playing OTHER games than Quake.. i disagree with this, I showed there is a relation between anti cheat, and player number. I also believe that to be the same cause for the disappearance as witnessed by the fact there are players that played on speaknow for a few months now but are suddenly back at Rage. The Cheaters DID flock there.. thats an incorrect observation, just like shok said.. and I have been checking this theory out through the server list on an almost daily basis.. rage has had 6-10 players back almost every day playing a game or two at sometime during the day, rage was empty 100 percent prior to the anti-cheat going up; players who are no longer attending speaknow, but were there for quite a long time before the anti-hack was installed.

I don't see any strong valid premises to your claims of them getting new games, that might happen with a player or two, but generally speaking the same crowd was around for a long time until the anti-hack occured and a large portion of that same crowd is now playing peacefully at rage.. go figure?

There are still people playing at speaknow, it is not dead but yesterday night it took an entire day to get a 6v6 where as before it happened several times throughout the day.

Its unfortunate but Quake has cheaters and they don't want to play without it because people will truly see how bad they are.

lol.. you did cheat, thats the bad part.

I don't get how you come in here trying to defend yourself with sarcasm, but it was evident.

It was the way you played, you made it extremely obvious. When people were inside water you would pop your head out and shaft them perfectly no matter where they moved. This is a move even the best players in the game can't pull off because they have no clue where the guys new location is in regards to his last seen location in water.

Not to mention one game you looked like the top 3 worse quakers of all time, the next game you looked like the messiah who can save the game.

He would've made it a lot more obvious if he didn't sit in the bridge / water area every round on dm3. It's well known that cheaters love water, in fact if you watch basy play (one of the most well known cheaters in q1) the only thing he does well is water.

I think you tried to fool too many seasoned players who already knew what to look for, now you just look stupid and are noticeably absent from any quake games crissy.

I haven't been around much due to the holidays (and d/t the fact I built myself a media center pc to play hd movies on my hdtv ). I assume thats the case with other people as well.

The anti-wallhack feature is awesome, I've been trying to get it added to rage for a long time. So when I get a chance I'll make sure it's running there too (have to ask vis/ava to do that).

About a year ago R00k and I added a feature to rage to detect if people were using the opengl wallhack, and didn't tell anyone this for a few weeks so we could just log who was using it. It was the most common hack at the time since pq cheatfree didnt' catch it. Not that many people were using it, and mostly it was who you'd expect.

That's not enough to go against anything that I have said.. in terms of today's cheaters.. I would be interested to hear some of the names you did catch though..

to show this, you have to isolate that one variable (whether or not anti-cheat is running) and keep everything else the same, while only changing that one variable. This is textbook scientific theory. Rook's point was that you didn't do that. to me it still looks like you're over-asserting your interpretation based on insufficient evidence. this is a discussion about epistemology (theory of knowledge), not quake really

yellow, i am jealous. i love building PCs. and yeah i think we're all distracted by our new toys. ive been off partying, seeing old friends etc.

                  lol..
You cannot isolate these variables in Quake, this is a theory, I never stated it was a fact. You like to make it seem as if I make up facts. I believe this is solid EVIDENCE as a REASON for WHY many players are no LONGER at the server.

Rook said the reason for players leaving is playing OTHER games, which has little relevance to as why people are no longer there. It is EVIDENT since the EXACT time the anti cheat went up, players are playing at another CA server (WITHOUT ANTI HACK). Pay attention to ALL the details before you jump to conclusions.

I compared two servers for you, and all the players who played at speaknow up until the anti-cheat are now strictly back at Rage where although they ping higher, there is no anti-cheat running; this is not a fluke, this is cause and effect.

It's easy to try and nitpick small sentences out of the whole, isn't it?

This is an opinion, I believe in it. I am not forcing my beliefs on you, only providing you with reason as to WHY players have all of a sudden after months and months of playing are NO longer playing there.

I hate to burst your bubble but I don't think anyone was shocked to see you disappear. Most of us predicted it, and it's not like the cat's just out of the bag. A lot of people knew you cheat for a while now, including myself.

Im beginning to think its a bit of both, cheaters and the holidays.

While obviously there are cheaters amungst us, theres also the holidays which brings people closer and allows them to spend more time with eachother instead of veg'n out on a Quake 1 server.

I say its still to early to say 100% why the servers are behaving like this. Lets see what happens in the next few months.
