I posted yesterday about the GateWay map concept, but there is something else I have found surprising that mappers don't do.
The Vanity Map!
You can put pictures in a map. You could make a big hall or room with photos on the wall.
I played around with this briefly because I thought it would be cool to have made an eSx map that was like a hall displaying the different members, have a clubhouse or something.
You know, something cool, something funny, something over the top.
I also thought another good idea would be to make a map that outlined the history of Quake like a museum.
But, an idea that I think people would pay money for is the vanity map. Stick pictures of family photos in them, a family tree or who knows what.
I did this in 5 minutes and I suck!
Some mappers can make castles with chairs and do it easy
Would you want the inside of this place ...
... to be decked out as your were the king? Would you show it to your friends?
Would you pay $30-$50 for a really cool map customized just for you, even knowing that maybe the castle or throne room or whatever with huge pictures of each member of your family on the wall was being used for dozens of other maps for other people and the mapper just pasted in your family's pics and changed the engraving at the entrance of the castle to be your family name ?
