I remember when it used to be moderately peaceful. Now people are making threads and posts like I OWNED YOU LOL as if Quake is just a pissing contest. So what happened?

People with massive egos and trolls invaded, I'd be nice of the moderators would actually ban people for that stuff instead of being lazy/not caring/scared/whatever; it'd save a lot of headaches.

Part of the fun of Quake is being able to get along due to having love for the same game and showing humility and being humble when your opponent wins or is defeated and then improving; unfortunately some people can't cope with losing, or take winning as the best thing since sliced bread and start flinging shit and spreading FUD on these forums because they care a lot about their internet cred.

This is the only Quake community I've seen with drama, trolls, and being regarded by others as a place to avoid.

I think this is a problem and I agree with everything you have said. I have suggested the idea of more moderators (and there was no immediate interest in adding more).

I know I don't have enough time to be a full-time moderator and baby sit all of this stuff, for instance.

Really, this is getting to be an undeniable problem and the only way it can be solved is with more moderators.

But this isn't up to me. So for anyone who agrees (or disagrees) that this is a problem, I would recommend pestering:

Only 3 mods for a place this big? I agree, you should hire more.
However please make sure they're unbiased, mature and please keep in mind over moderation can also destroy forums as people decide to get agendas and can't handle power, so keep an eye on that if you do decide to hire.

The two names that had been floated as new moderators are exceptionally level-headed people who I have never seen flame anyone to my knowledge. I think we have a very good community but also an imperfect one (like any).

But I don't have anything else to really add that I didn't mention in the above post.

Shame really, all the boards sooner or later fall apart....hate to see that happen here. Most of us are old school and have no problems, most of the other's just need to grow up a little.

It is not as bad as it sounds.

Omicron, calmed down. The flames were good. I have good memories with them. They were fun.

Sniper is an incompetent idiot and he changed his name now to RenegadeC to get away from my wrath and start anew with a fresh reputation after I crushed it. Me and him do not flame much as he is relatively calm. I do smack him when he gets cheeky with me.

Me and Phenom went at it, and I am done with him as well now. Not much more to say to someone that is this full of himself they are blinded by it.

Things are great, as I see it. As a general rule, do not insult another person based on a post they originally make. If the Administrators decide to punish flamings the originator most be punished first, then the participants, AFTER they are ALL made aware of this new instituted rule.

Also if you lose in an argument the best suggestion is to drop it and move on. Continuing and getting clowned continously everytime makes you look as a complete idiot. I did it to teach them a lesson and it was fun to see what the person can come up with, after awhile they run dry and I lost interest in them.

Bottom line and conlusion, do not pick fights and insult fellow posters. That ensures a trouble free environment. Be prepared, if you are the first that crosses the line, the results are unexpected and may not be in your favor, therefore be prepared to take it and suffer the consequences. Think before you talk and think before if you can handle it.

Also I noticed when people are overpowered they turn to insulting one's ethnicity, vulgarities, profanity and cursing. It is at that point when they sink low that they clearly lost.
