  • What mod would you like to see return?

What mod would you like to see make a comeback? I'm not referring to already well known/played mods but a mod you use to play all the time that is no longer around. If you don't have a mod thats no longer around and instead play the mainstream mods, RQ,CA,CTF thats fine, you can still give your input on mods that use to rock the house but no longer are remembered.

Maybe we can get some added fun to the current lineup of servers.

I have ordered another server form fatpipes and I am looking for something fresh and fun.

Maybe an all new mod can be made!

No B.S please, serious posters only.

I've mentioned this before, but I would like to see a mod that I used to play in QW come over to NQ. The mod is Direct Rocket Damage (DRD). The basic gameplay is that the only weapons you have are the shotgun, axe, and rocket launcher, and only direct rockets will do damage from the rocket launcher. I know that there is airquake, but airquake doesn't work like this, since if both of you are on the same plane, and you get a direct hit on your opponent it won't do damage in airquake.

Anyway, the other unique thing to this mod was that it partitioned off DM3 into 6 sections: Outside, Bridge, Yellow Armor, Mound, Red Armor, and SNG. When you connect to the server you are asked which area you want to goto and it sends you to the one you've chosen. If there is no one in that area you wait there until someone else arrives, or if there are people aleady in the area you are queued up to fight the winner. One other thing, if you are able to get 3 direct rockets in a row, you are rewarded with the lightning gun.

Note: the outside area was the most popular.

headhunters or super ctf which would catch on with the runequake newbies. through this you could possibly make ctf popular

It depends what your looking for in a mod but if it's just something different from the CTF/RA/Ca/RQ that has become the norm, something that's challenging but also real fun to play and experiment with then for me it has to be a toss up between Painkeep and Deathmatch plus

                    Painkeep
Beartraps, Autosentries, Can'o'Beans (extra health), Gravity wells, chain lightning gun, Harpoon, exploding shells, custom sounds, hub to allow map voting, 20 custom maps, the list goes on.
Goal: Use the array of weapons and traps to score the most frags.

                    Deathmatch Plus (ver2)
Homing rockets, Guided Missiles, Timed Bombs, Radio Tag (controlled) Bombs, Tripwires, Teleporting (therefore teleport fragging), 100+ custom maps, Vote-dm option, aaaaand the immensely damaging set of Superweapons (Super LG/RG/GL/SNG/SG/Trips) providing your server admin has turned them on.
Goal: Use the array of weapons and traps to score the most frags.

Personally I'd love to play either and although Polarite has very kindly run a nice and smooth DMP2 server, as with any Quake server these days, we could with a few more players. Please let me know if you decide to run either of these mods or need copies, extra painkeep maps, etc. As Foq quite rightly said said, you might also consider Slide which is really great fun on multiplayer, that is of course unless you play against the rolling roadblock that is =peg='s huge ass* , but judging by the traffic on the european slide server perhaps it's appeal isn't quite as long lasting as other mods.

Incidentally, up until recently the mighty Zop was doing some excellent work porting the Painkeep weapons across to the DMP2 mod, plus Orl very kindly converted some of the best painkeep maps to a standard format. If zop manages to complete this, or if someone else (looks hopefully at Rook/Baker/Bam/RG) wants to help out with this last little bit, it might be worth trying and you would then get the best of both worlds. Just a thought

                    Kind regards

                    Monty
                    * Picture running 95% of the map, it feels good you nitice that you're on for the map record time, your can see the finish line, yes, you're going to do it, the glory will be yours, then suddenly peg appears from nowhere right in front of you and slashes your time by 50%

Quaddy told me about this recently and it seems to be a little like capture the flag. You travel the map and when you beat someone in a battle you collect up their head and return to the flag. However if you are sufficiently skilled you can elect to not go back to the flag and continue collecting multiple heads and get a bigger bonus when you return them all to the flag in one go. On the face of it there seems to be a interesting change in the dynamic in that you are actively looking for someone to battle against rather than grab a flag and return to base hoping to avoid any combat.

From what Quaddy said I think this may be the src... clicky

                      and Headhunter with runes... clicky

Full credit goes to Quaddy for all the info/links. Hope this helps

Headhunters definately, since it was what I was playing when everyone else was DM'ing, CA'ing, ect.

Pol that paintball mod sounds really fun too. I'd love to try it - I'd probably suck though

headhunters isnt like ctf at all.

there's an alter. you collect heads after killing people, and they are literally on your body. if someone else kills you, you drop all the heads and they can pick them up. for every head you take to the alter, you get a frag. you cant sit around near the alter or you start taking damage.
