I understand what you are saying. I hope you'll take time to read this rather long worded explanation of how the Quake community is killing itself.

Here is probably what happens to Quake at the rate things are going if nothing is changed ...

Clan Arena has already been severely damaged by negative attitude players. It is a shadow of what it was a mere 4 months ago.

When something is dominated by rude people, they leave.

We've had this problem in the forums too. Severe negativity and trolling. This kind of thing can spread where you have otherwise decent people, like yourself, thinking rudeness and insulting other Quake players is normal.

The way things are going, there will no DM or CTF or even much CA. RuneQuake, ironically, will continue to march on because it is FFA that doesn't give people a lot of time to talk or insult others.

About no one is playing CA. A few people are playing DM and maybe more are playing CTF, but DM is about 2-3 regulars away from vanishing again. CTF should last a little longer due to Sunday night games.

This is happening solely because a fair number of players are very rude to a lot of people.

Everyone sees this.

In just the last week or so, Rampage has said it. Spoon has said it. asc has said it. Maybe 10-15 other people have said it.

I know I personally am tired of listening to the bottom 10% of white trash feel that some server is their personal soapbox for spewing hate and negative comments?

So, shall we as a community just let this go?

Between different key members of the community, we have the technology and means to make this game cheat-free and free.

All of that means nothing if the game is so dominated by rude people that no one in their right mind could in good faith recommend it to a friend.

I mean, look a Frenzy posting in the forum about his friend Firefly and to be nice to him. Should that be necessary?

So my question to you:

This is a CTF thread. Why are you dissing other Quake players preferences, especially in a thread that has nothing to do with it?

Is this not a site for promoting Quake? Or is it a site for the promotion of the unprovoked insulting other Quake players?

I guess what I am saying is that the community has to be cleaned up and 10x times as many people get their impression of the players by what they read on the forums than they do with the servers and clean up has to start somewhere.

All i really did is take a cheap shot at a "mod". I didnt say anything about the players playing it. I didnt make a separate post singling out Runequake or its players.

I understand that i would be in the wrong if i did something like that but there has to be a line on both sides that you dont cross and editing my post cause i took a cheap shot at a mod, that may not be too much right now but that kind of thing leads to even more heavy handedness and forum cop like behavior.

There has to be a middle ground and i believe that as long as someone doesnt go out of their way to be insulting or deragatory, be it by making a post or just going after someone in another thread, then they shouldnt be censored. Obviously not counting commen sense. I mean if i was to post nothing but profanities and links to porn then by all means that deserves censorship.

I was having a little fun, didnt mean to get you worked up, and i agree with everything you said. I just wanted to get my point across that going to much in the opposite direction is just as bad of a thing too.

Hey, look ... you know you certainly aren't on anyone's of people that are killing the game with their attitude.

After a certain person's little vitriol-induced anti-RuneQuake tirade that severely crossed the decency line, I had messaged Sole and Yellow that was I was going to start to curb the attacks on various mods.

This was actually fueled by an instance over a week ago where someone pointlessly attacked both Clan Arena and, for whatever reason, Qrack as being gay and for lamers.

You don't see other communities kill themselves within like NetQuake has. I think an action plan to promote an clean and healthy Quake environment will surface in the next couple of weeks.

I know ending mod-bashing in the forums will probably be part of it -- mostly because if you look and see who does most of it it tends to be the losers that cause problems on every server they ever visit.

Those guys are the ones that will call, say, RuneQuake a newbie mod and also insult any newbie off a Clan Arena, DM or CTF server.

Go figure.

Nah. I'm a surprising laid back. You should be able to tell by how I play on the servers.

I understand your point. Just remember, compromise has it's place.
