This page has a number of development tools:

I'm no QuakeC expert but to make a mod in it's simplest form you only need the following:
      1. Quake src (to give you the necessary basic files which you will change/add to according to what you want your mod to do),
      2. a text editor of some description (to make the changes to those files ),
      3. something to compile the mod into a progs.dat,
      4. Quake (to run and test your mod once you have written and compiled it),and perhaps the most important...
      5. lots and lots of patience and imagination.

This link may also be helpful clicky

      Hope this helps

      Kind regards

P.S. You might want to add Bam, Slot, the mighty Zop and the equally mighty R00k's phone numbers the above list :d

Personally, I would get used to the basics first. Then experiment further. However, A lot of mappers tend to hang out at the func message board (a link to which should be on Baker's navigator, and they might be able to point you in the right direction. ORL, who is a very accomplished mapper, is usually a good source of information if you talk to him nicely There are also some tutorials to worldcraft on the net if you look around.

As for creating your own entities.. That's a tricky one.

I haven't seen a compiler for models. I use some old program called qME that loads and saves .mdl files. I use it just to look at frames, rather than build models, but it seems to have that ability.

i have qme already its an ok tool, but its not as great as an actual modeling program. honestly the best thing id use that for is skinning or reskinning because you can draw directly on the model

oh, one more question hehe, does the zombie have a melee attack? cause it doesnt look like he does.
