  • Server browsers...

Does anyone use a server browser of any kind to connect to quake games anymore? Is one better then the others? I used to use gamespy once upon a while ago but you prolly have to pay for the service now? I'd like to get in on this CTF thing tonight... Lets go class... Quick responses...

There is a version of ProQuake with a built-in server browser and map download:

    http://www.quakeone.com/proquake/pro...80320_0414.zip

Press F7 and the server browser screen is displayed. It downloads the maps on any server and it takes generally between 2 and 10 seconds.

It's beta and has been used for a couple of months by a number of players. If you have a restrictive firewall (Norton, Sygate, etc.), the "mapget" helper utility needs firewall access.

Eventually when time permits, the helper utility will disappear and the download mechanism will be part of the client via some code Rook implemented from the Warsow game.

The server browser feeds from the QuakeOne.com server list.

little more help needed... I unziped the file and I click on glpro.exe... d3dpro.exe, wqpro.exe, and I get an error message that reads "W_LoadWadFile: couldn't load gfx.wad"

        Unzip into Quake folder.

        Double-click glpro399.exe (not glpro.exe !)

I am assuming you have Quake. There should be a subfolder in your Quake folder called id1 that contains pak0.pak and pak1.pak.

Extra info: glpro399.exe -- unlike GLQuake.exe or even glpro.exe -- *can* be double-clicked to start it.
