I am very curious about it. Perhaps you/others can answer few questions..

-Is all of this game's data from website and it gets loaded into browser and your cfg is pulled from online via your editable on-line profile? That is how I am feeling it, nobody explained it to me and online documentation is skimpy.

-Is there bot support - as in - can you play matches versus them?

-How many levels are there? Are there different or more from Quake 3?

-How is it different from latest Quake - 4? Any physics improvements?

Perhaps we can play each other from here if we all tell our handles..

I been playing Quake 3 Arena, and while I been greatly enjoying it, I feel that its physics are greatly capped within certain parameters-such as: there is no slope incremental speed bursts that you hit for extra speed (such as in Q1), you cannot navigate on small crevices or ledges - for example small structures - you just fall through them and it seems they are just for show. Bunny-hopping seems to be limited to just running and jumping - sort of like PK - with no real control or benefit, and you cannot change directions in mid-air - you just go headlong into wall and come to full stop.

Lastly, what turns me off more is that Q3 seems to be focused most on fast gameplay - aim and just armor grabbing - as I mentioned, skill of maneuvering seemed to be omitted from this version.

Good thing about this game though, is that mostly all weapons carry high damage ratio and can deliver rather big punches - therefore shotgun can emerge winner in rocket duel, for ex.

Lastly, I want to greatly thank you for techpowerup.org. I think I will move all my art over there since it has 2mb limit - 2x that of pb - and no bandwidth limit! I was thinking of purchasing pb account.. silly me. That 2mb is perfect for me because being limited by resolution and size some things are hard to see into my drawings because lots of detail becomes puny on-screen.

Question, those pics that you upload, do you have control over them?

    Thanks,
    -T.

I can't say wether if you load a picture to techpowerup.org if it stays there forever or not... you might find all your art changed to the red X "image not found" symbol one day. That and there is a watermark that appears at the bottom right of the image.

Quake live is basically Quake 3, just through a browser. It does install some kind of plugin, but it's not very weighty. It's basically just Quake 3 through your broswer feeding off some server somewhere instead of an actual Quake 3 install on your computer.

This isn't exactly true. The movement in Q3/Quake Live is different than Quake one, but there is definitely a learning curve when it comes to doing certain maneuvers, namely making difficult jumps and learning how to accelerate through circle jumping and maintain your speed through strafe jumping. There is a video entitled "Genesis, the Begining of ..." that goes into detail some of the finer points of Quake 3 movement.

Foq, thanks for you detailed response which helped me formulate my conclusion. Also I understand now about how QL works.

Papa.. yes you are very right. I just recently got Q3TA, I had played Q3A and movement differences between these two are drastic! Q3TA deff. handles more detail in movement intricacies.

I played Q3A when I made those statements and I was using Q1 skills. I have not done any research on Q3TA physics movements, I just watched couple of pro-player demos - although they were playing Q3TA not Q3A, therefore some stuff was not possible to execute under previous ver. :/

Thanks all and I will see you on QL when not on Q1. Everybody should drop their handles in here to meet each other! Mines will be TPlus.

Also, how are you guys finding Rail Gun? It took me 2 weeks to get decent with it - and that is playing vs bots, lolz. I know human players smoke with this weapon - I have seen it in latest pro-player tournament at QuakeCon 2008:

QuakeUnity.com - Uniting The QUAKE Universe

Cypher totally dominated whole match with it. Check it out and tell me what you guyz think!

And Papa, thanks for this game, I been itchin to play it for long time..

                  -T.

I finally got back from playing this, and all I can say is .. WOW!

                      Thanks Papa!

Tons of options, features and toys to play around here. Graphix and game-play are excellent too!

This is closest to best dueling game I have ever played, bar none.

Speaking of Rail Gun earlier, I was nailing everybody with it, even though I am semi-decent with it compared to those pro-players that I spoke of earlier, after playing with it for only 2 weeks.

This weapon is very difficult and mastery of it pretty much guarantees total domination of match - see my above posted movie. While I was on, people mostly shy away from using this weapon.

Skill-wise, players here tend to range about medium when I played on TX server. Our CA-ers are deff. better. However, this is diff. game.

My first "Live" game I did very good - I was leading 15 to 12 - that is until I got this pop-up from virus upgrade software and I scrambled to get my QuakeLive screen back on up, lolz.

Upon your 1st connect, you get tested by this bot who matches your skill level to others later on.. very cool. I beat that bot on hardest by 3 points. I do not know if this means anything since people are waaay better than bots, Quake3 bots that is.

I had lots of fun! I will deff. be playing this!

Great, great game! I will be seeing yall..

Ha-Ha! Ya that bot was nice. She got head-start on me then I caught up. She played fair though, no cheesy cheapness. I cannot complain.

The bot is fucked, I had a huge lead on it, and ended up only winning by 5, it's like it KNOWS you're fucking it up and starts having godlike aim, lol
