The Shambler is one of the toughest enemies in a game i have ever come across, they eat a ton of ammo and their attack is impossible to dodge and you gotta find cover. I've been playing Quake on Hard and the few Shamblers you come across in the first episode all gave me a hard time.

Their the combination of the Tank Commander and Gladiator and Mutant (the three toughest enemies from Quake II not counting the bosses). Its great because it keeps you on your toes. But they arnt even the most dangerous buggers, those damned Fiends kill me even more times.

This is one of the things I like about Quake. In most games you kill an endless line of simple enemies with the odd strongling now and again. But even the common enemies in the game like the Ogres and Knights can be the end of you if your not completly alert.

I reached Episode 2 and fighting those Enforcers with the wimpy Shotgun was a massive set back but thankfully you do get the Super Shotgun back before you reach the slipgate. I'm just afraid I'll meet a Shambler before I get the Perforeta. *gulp*

the trick to shamblers is knowing that if you're far away, they'll try to zap you with lightning. you can pretty much only avoid this by hiding behind a wall or something, which is bad because when you're hiding you can't shoot back. if you're near him, he tries to claw you, which is better because you can avoid this while still shooting back at him: try getting right up in their face, so they try to claw you instead of zapping you with lightning. just as he starts the clawing motion, back away so he doesn't damage you. after his swipe is over, get back in his face and repeat. continue shooting while doing this and he should go down soon.

sounds just like the gladiator. with him you gotta get right up to his face then back off before he hits ya whilst shooting him. the only diffrence between the shambler and gladiator is if your moving, you can easily dodge the gladiators rail gun.

my stradegy to taking down the shamblers is using the perforata because that thing is just what you need for the job. i use the grenade launcher or rocket launcher for the fiends. dont use any explosive weapons of the shamblers because it does less damage to them.

i decided to play the game on Hard because as far as i can see, the enemies are just the same in health and damage but theres alot more of them so your getting more fun.

Shamblers are easy. Just keep close enough so they don't use the lightning, back off when they raise their paws to smash you, then close in again, and circle-strafe a lot, and you'll deal with them no problem.

After completing the game my favorite enemy is the Vore. Their homing attack is so cool.

The final level where you kill Shub-Niggurath for some reason fits quite well. Some people might feel cheated that all your doing is fighting Shamblers and Vores like you've been doing all over Episode 4 but i like it. First time i did it i didnt find the Lightning Gun so i was forced to use the rocket laucnher on the first wave of Shamblers

After loosing three of my runes when completing episode 4, i just used noclip to enter the dungeon under the introduction level, i still completed all four episodes legitly in hard so there was nothing wrong in using Noclip for that bit coz the game screwed up a bit.
