Steam is a joke, you should look into this google link
          Clan HDz - Google Search

Radec has mentioned his purchase from Steam has been flawed, he mentioned he beat levels 1-3 , obtained the three runes for each respective level, and upon completing level 4,the runes for levels 1-3 we're gone and he could not proceed down the stairs to the portal leading to End level. This could have been a problem during download, but I dunno. I dont recommend Steam...for anything...

Steam is kind of cool in that there's no disc switching, but other than that it's kind of crappy. You have to download everything, which can/will piss anyone/everyone on your network off. The steam files aren't moddable (for example, no Oblivion Lost with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl on Steam), and there are goofy problems with Steam versions of retail games (have a buddy who can't save his game in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl through Steam, only the autosave function when you switch maps works.

There is Quake on the Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, PC, Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii. DS, Wii and Gamecube are homebrew ports, the rest are official. I never heard of PSP but that doesn't mean its not true. If you want to play on DS get a RAM Expansion Pak, it works better. You also NEED one Quake 2 on the DS.

You do not get a physical copy is the problem!

Before you do anything on the PSP you need to make sure your firmware is low enoguh, because is you have the new psp's (model 3000), or new version of firmware, it wont work, because each new version of firmware needs to hacked/cracked, adn with each new official game that get's released, often you have to upgrade to new firmware to play them. So Sony always stays ahead.

You also need a special TOOL battery (lol, I know), to start the PSP in service mode before you can hack it (e.g. install custom firmware). It's called the Pandora Battery. Not all work, and some firware can turn your PSP into a brick.

So yeah, doing things on PSP homebrew is tricky business.

As far as Steam goes, try downloading 300mb Half Life 2 update file over 56k back in 2004. Nightmare. Nowdays, Steam is only good if you play Valve games.

Modded Xbox's Run Quake 1 and Quake 2.
wow... old school on old school.

Quake DS is pretty easy to achieve cause you can freely buy the blank cartridge and download all corresponding software.
And last I knew about the Wii Port it runs right off SD card with out modification to the system or bios and such.

A hard-modded pandora's battery coupled with a magic memory stick maker, I had my psp running custom firmware (up to date M33) ,and debricked a friends PSP in one fell swoooooooooooooop. When done right, custom firmware is a blessing if you should ever run into a problem with the PSP not turning on properly. If you shelled out the cash for it,better take the time to invest in a backup plan, and why not play some Quake on the go while your at it.

PS : That TOOL battery is something you buy,and im not just that inclined to buy things. Yay lets hard mod a psp battery and risk burning our hands off.
Now its my turn to be a fanboy
