  • So.. Pro Quake 4 ?

    one question -

    when on Gods green Earth is PQ4 going to get finished and released.

    I know there is some older versions that aren't as buggy as the new, and I know that there are several other mods out there much more advanced, But a lot (including myself), for some reason will always favor the straight up older look and feel of the original Quake. The official homepage for Pro Quake has posted about version 4 for quite some time now and I haven't seen or heard anything. A few updated beta's from last year, yeah..but when I go to the Pro Quake website, it talks as if v4 is already completed.. or about to be

    Misleading I guess I don't know. Anyhow, all I'm saying is what's been said to be about version 4, would actually be nice to see it all finally through.

    Could you explain that statement? If there is something that doesn't work, I'd really like to know. (And if so, what operating system?)

    I'd love to finish it. I just haven't had time, but I've been feeling the urge to do another incremental update.

    Well, I'm not willing to release a ProQuake "4.00" until a private list of my standards has been met. A server browser, map download, full and total resolution switching in-client with texture manager and a couple of private ideas that Rook and I have occasionally bounced ideas back and forth on and some other things I probably am not thinking of at the moment.

      3.99 never worked for me--problem at startup, i dont remember what error

        I think Baker is at the same point where i'm facing 2.0 on Qrack and have a worthy release update but im just grr hinging on a slew of other features that are just around the corner maybe i can stuff and release a 1.95.

        ProQuake 4.0 should have csqc and until thats fully ratified we'll have to wait til they nail down some loose boards.

          I did some evil things in a previous bastard version about a year ago, I was trying to rock the boat and inspire at the time.

          But I removed those things long ago.

          If you have problems with the current 3.99 version please let me know.

          I'm all for CSQC, but I also fear the cake in the oven that is never done.

          We'll see ....

                okay I tried the most recent glpro 3.99, and it started up but it ran really jerky. also, explosions were much brighter than usual and extremely distracting--even when a nailgun was firing, it changed the color of the whole screen.

                specs: HP Media Center m7330n, AMD athlon 64 x2 4200+, 2gb ram, radeon x1600, windows xp sp3

                  Spooker, did you add -gamma x.xx to the command line?

                  If you don't, it uses a JoeQuake style brightness system which is slower with dynamic lights. Using -gamma x.xx makes it use the ProQuake brightness system.

                  What I'd *really* like to do and -- in fact now have the knowledge to do, with great difficulty -- is implement the ProQuake brightness system in a shift-on-the-fly manner.

                  [Which someone knowledgeable like Rook or MH would tell you is a real pain the ass because it would have to delete ALL the OpenGL textures and re-upload them with new brightness levels. But that's the glquake/proquake way.]

                    okay, fixed that. what about the jerkiness?
                    also, i start it with conwidth and conheight but the bar at the bottom is still really small. here's all my commands i run with:

                    -width 1024 -height 768 -bpp 32 -conwidth 320 -conheight 240 -gamma .4 -iplog -mem 256 -condebug spooker%d

                      ProQuake 3.99 doesn't acknowledge conwidth/conheight, there is a menu option either in preferences or video options where you can change all that in real time.

                      Or use the cvar vid_consize (valid values: -1,0,1,2,3,4,5 or something like that)

                      I'm not sure what you mean by jerkiness, I believe that you are getting it because you say you are, but I wouldn't know what setting is causing the problem. My guess is to try vid_vsync 1 in the console.
