Program to read/edit .dat files?

I need a program I can use to hack into the progs.dat for Slide. I want to change some of the death messages. I tried with wordpad but it made the progs.dat unuseable (mod didn't work)

you can use wordpad and compile with a ..well compiler = FrikaC's Project Whorehouse -- Projects [frikqcc is on that page]

or you can get a all-in-one programme = Justin Thyme - QCide

oh yeah and you might first want to look in ClientObituary in client.qc for them, but they might be moved for some reason

Hehe... I got done what I was trying to do. Hint: get squished on my server and you'll see what I did. It helps if you are familiar with Full Metal Alchemist

The squisher room on speed is a great way to test it out, but speed has to be set by an admin (me) because it's not in the rotation and it's not on the slide start map
