okay i could also use some help. i need to scan about 800 pages, 8.5' x 11'. Staples/Kinko's/Joe's Copyshop prices aren't competitive--anywhere from 20 cents per page to $1 per page. plus they are personal papers, so I'd prefer not to have a stranger go through them.
Can someone recommend a basic, home office type scanner? I was hoping to spend in the $200 to $250 range. It seems that the scanner market has been devastated recently by multifunction printer/scanner/copier units--I went to Staples, they had over 40 multifunctions and only 5 scanners.
The best option I've found so far is a Xerox Documate 515.
i know this might better be posted on another forum, but i don't know of any, and this is the only forum i go to, so help plz!

                Yes you do >_>

Wouldn't it be better to get a multifunction anyway rather than have a printer and a scanner? I don't know how much desk space you have but I don't have room for both.

I don't like it, too much room for human error. Human's cant go in perfectly straight lines. Try drawing a straight line in mspaint using the brush, or with oldschool pencil and paper.

thanks for the suggestions guys. i already have 2 multifunction printer/scanner/copier units, and they are grossly insufficient for scanning a large quantity of documents. most of them have flatbed scanners, and i'm not going to scan 800 pages individually on a flatbed scanner--that sounds fairly close to my vision of purgatory. one of my multifunction units has a document feeder, but again it's grossly insufficient--it jams a lot, the scans are crooked, and it's very slow. i think i found a best option today--tried out the scanner in my friends office and it seemed to do the trick, for no cost

Cheapskate. No I'm kidding, that is the best option.
I always say "Why buy when you can borrow a friend's and never return it?" Haha

Similarly, I remember you saying that you only test out unknown software on friends computers.
