  • New server

Hello all. I'm trying my hand at running a netquake server. Its address is:

    empoknor.dyndns.org

The mods are courtesy of Logic who used to run quake.symix.com (my favorite server until it was shutdown on dec 31st 1997, while i was playing!). Anyhow there are runes for strength, haste, etc and the ability to set rocket or napalm traps.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I took a look at it. You should add a readme or a description about how to use runes or traps. Also even though I pinged about 65 the server seemed kinda sloppy/sluggish. What ticrate are you running it at?

Forgive me as I recently learned about quake c and how these mods actually work. Not sure what you mean by a readme. When you connect it says press 9 for napalm and 0 for rocket traps. They can only be set if you have enough ammo, 10 rockets or 25 nails. There are four kinds of runes, haste, resistance, strength, and one that keeps your health recharged up to 200.

Now about the tickrate. I'm not familiar with that setting. Is it set from the command line or while the server is running?

Ticrate is the rate the server updates. The default is .05, but some mods change it to a higer value, meaning it takes longer for the server to update, resulting in sluggish gameplay. I know Capture the Llama did this in the autoexec the mod came with... it had it set to .09... sluggish indeed. The actual command is "sys_ticrate". It COULD be set from the command line, but it is easier to make an autoexec with the server-side commands in it as the command line easily gets crowded and doesn't work with some commands (like hostname)
