i was looking to dm the past few nights,
unfortunately my ping has been pretty high ,
i have to wait till about midnight or 1 am (Eastern) to have a stable ping, and it is still not what it used to be,

If you can can take the ping they regularly DM on Bigfoot.quake1.net. They're usually a good bunch of lads too.

dm3 is overplayed
crmod doesnt offer a pickup mode
after 13 years dm players STILL dont know how to install custom maps
all dm servers still run at 0.05 ticrate.
no one has officially created a "DM-Night" for everyone to play.

5 is probably the biggest reason because most of the DM players are those people that prefer the boring, bland, repetitive thing that is DM3 over and over and over and over and over and over. In essence, DM players want to play at crmod but never go there because they're never all on at once—they don't make it a point to play.

Hmm, c'mon everone knows it take 10 seconds to get from RA to RL.
but the point is that DM3 is only map played for DM which kinda limits the possibility of anyone wanting to play DM. CA is a different story simply beause theres only strategy in faking around what corner. Thers only 1 agenda kill not collect weapons and kill. Which is why CTF is better than anything else It's everything Quake combined!
The mechanics of DM make it either routine, or exploitative. Thus, newbs wont play because they feel overwhelmed and leets are bored.

EDIT: Pickup mode is where theres a game in progress and a connecting player is put right into the game, on the losing team, and/or on the team with less players. All modern games offer this with map rotation. The elite attitude and the complete dullness of 1 map logic killed quake DM. It's only a nostalgic boner.
I'm not bashing DM. but there needs to be more to it than mastering DM3...
