one should note though, on that server page, servers with a 00/00 are offline.

And I really need to move crmod.com to the non-cheatfree server list.

RIP ProQuake cheat-free (although 1 or 2 ProQuake cheat-free servers still exist, they aren't mainstream servers).

Anyone who wants to make their own server browser, just Qstat.org to query the Quake servers. It's not "easy" but it isn't "impossible" either. Can't be done with a simple freebie web space hosting account, though.

            /Just throwing that in.

And while we're at it, if anyone has any ideas on improving the server browser let me know.

Have it output a plain text fixed-width 80 character per line file named servers.txt on each query, sorted by number of players with "down" servers excluded. /joking!

Then ProQuake 4 and Qrack can use the http download capabilities to create in-client instantaneous server browsers.

                /Hey, you asked!

On a serious note, I should look at the code in ProQuake 3.99z (the server browser was marvelous, fast and amazing. But I cheated and it was fragile and hacky. But it could be done more "right".) I'm only half joking but I'd need to write up the spec and really it would be quite simple.

(But I need to add sound download to ProQuake 4 and finish experimenting with the HTTP redirection PHP to get the "map depot" operational too.)

Actually, that is more or less exactly how EuroQuake server-side server-browser works

Hence anyone using any client can use EuroQuake (bigfoot.quake1.net:26000) as a HUB to check where the party is at, and join the server of choice from there..

(say !servers -all or !servers -ne in messagemode to get a list of all/non-empty servers)

I'm actually working on my own server browser for the web using my own server query library built from scratch. Writing it from scratch i'll be able to query other custom information if Rook or Baker decides to provide it (such as Efficiency, shots fired, etc).

I'm doing this so I can create a google wave client, and provide query capabilities for anyone including Quake clients like baker suggested.

I'll post when there's something to show, I saw the thread, so I figured i'd let people know there's stuff happening.
