  • Death of a friend

A few days ago I needed a fresh install of Q1 so I pulled my trusty CD out from its hallowed sleeve, inserted into drive d: let it rock out and do its thing. A few hours later I was running around, kicking ass in episode one, letting the NIN trackset loom from the disc when suddenly,

    it stopped.

i heard a rhythmic whirring, i thought "well, i think my 5th cd drive has finally bit the dust-" and then a loud "KRACK!" .....and no buzzing.

    I peed, just a little.

With a shaky finger i hit eject, and all my horrific fears were made real......

that's right. my q1 disc, which i had to mail order direct from id software way back in 1996, that i saved a months worth of allowance for, has finally ***ged its last scrag.

I know, I can order another one from maybe ebay, or something, but for nostalgia's sake, for quake's sake.. a little moment of silence for my fallen warrior, if you please.

Take the CDROM out of the computer and shoot it... preferably with a Mosin Nagant or some form of .50 cal rifle... or a 10 gauge slug.

Seriously though, get rid of it. You wouldn't want this to happen to other discs.

If you end up doing this, show us the body. Let this be a warning to rogue CD-ROMs.
