No one here runs the HDZ server. You'd need to talk to Avalanche.

Sounds like the CTF server you guys were on didn't have match mode to lock people out from joining. Maybe someone can get in touch with Avalanche and gets R00k's current CTF installed so if you play a match, people can't join and intentionally ruin a game.

Believe me, no one likes the various problems like these. I remember playing a well-balanced 4 on 4 DM game a year ago and "PlayeR" had some color change script and kept ruining the game. I wasn't happy at all.

ava cant really do anything. kimp will just get a new ip and come back on server. quake is a community. i have seen him do all kinds of gay shit on quakeone forums. he gets banned and creates a new alias. then people recognize him again and he is allowed to post again. look, as a community, lets get rid of this cancer. if someone recognizes its kimp, ban him again, no matter what ip and alias. don't let him slide. that is what has been happening.

R00k and I have been talking back and forth from time to time about ideas to make things better (like universal ban file, where the server can download a ban list).

Things *will* be better, but everyone has limited time.

MVDSV, a Quakeworld server, has a proxy penetrating feature to make proxy services useless, I've heard. I have been looking into it.

Everyone cares about this stuff. If there were 5 clones of R00k, myself and Bam this stuff could get solved tomorrow. But there isn't and things take time.

What does banning Kimp from the forums have to do with him screwing up CTF games?

The real problem is there is no way to currently to ban people using proxy servers.

/I might add, the QuakeOne forums are "open forums". Only 3 people have ever been banned from the forums and it was for spamming, posting porn or continually being really abusive for months on end. Banning Quake players from the forums isn't part of the plan here, that was what Solecord, Yellow and I agreed on way back when.

he would join the teams at the last second and make it 3v2. match mode wouldnt matter. You could always ban the name "player"
                Cbuf_AddText (va("say ZeroQuake GL version 1.10\n"));

Ok ... problem defined. I'll see what MVDSV does to penetrate proxies and talk with R00k. And then add universal ban file support (not too hard, R00k's CURL download support means downloading files is easy -- even for a server.)

Might take a week or more ... have to talk with R00k on how the ban file should ideally work and if it can work without updating the actually mod's progs.dat.

Apparently Spike (uber-elite engine coder, author of the FTEQW client) views that server feature as extremely secure. FTEQW is the engine I ported anti-wallhack from.

                      Sv getrealip
                      From FTE
                      Jump to: navigation, search

Safer way to retrieve the true IP of clients.

1 (secure, supported by all clients) = Stuffs the client to send a packet back to the server and thus determines the IP from that.

2 (very secure, supported by mQWCL and FTE) = The server will also send an A2A_PING to the retrieved IP and expect A2A_ACK back.

3 (extremely secure, supported by FTE) = Will also require a challenge.
                      MVDSV docs ...

                      - change: sv_getrealip 0/1/2:
0 - real ip is not checked
1 - server tries to check ip for 5 sec. on failure, client is connected anyway (real ip is unknown)
2 - server tries to check ip for 5 sec, on failure, client is dropped.
Quakeworld has been using sv_getrealip for ages as a reliable way to ban through proxies, so this isn't an experimental feature; it's been road-tested for years.

Might be some work to port this over, but it'll be worth it.

ProQuake 4 and Qrack are immune to superkick, actually.
