you can actually chuck the ball by changing to any weapon while you are holding it with the axe.

True, but imho this is a bad habit as many times people instinctual turn to shoot an opponent, and then drop the ball right to them. i prefer to force myself to hand off the ball, then defend myself. I use mouse2 "impulse 1"(axe) and mouse1 +attack. Makes for fast catch and throw.

the axe does like 80 damage so i just used that when i had the ball

I throw the ball anyway and if they get it then thats ok. It's not like q-ball where it adds up points and the most points win... If it were that case i'd be more prone to hold the ball longer. But I did the same thing when i played q-ball all the time on mplayer and was very successful.

Ya im not sure the whole dynamics of the game yet, as its not quake qball not exactly ca and not really football either. If you shoot the ball carrier less often then they gain more health and u get more points for shooting them. But, on the flip side if u score whore it, then they gain distance towards your goal. so team play vs fraggers.

Another neat trick for Qball was throwing the ball up in the air, switching to RL blasting the guy and catching the ball before it bounced!
