Methane heats up the atmosphere, though. They say it has happened before about 200 million years ago when a large volcano erupted through a large deposite of coal. Now, I never really understood how they find out these things that happened millions of years ago, but I'm no scientist. For all I know they make these things up. It is fact, though, that methane can increase the temperature of the atmosphere, but, to my understanding, would take a whole lot of methane gas to make a difference. They said that the eruption only caused the temperature to climb about 20 degrees. And, keep in mind, they said this volcano was enormous.
- I saw a show the other night about methane. They discovered methane ice in some parts of the oceans, and it is a very high efficiency fuel, and hoped to use it in the near future. They claimed it was better than all of our current natural energy resources combined. But, if it changed the temperature of our climate before, and we were to use it as a fuel now. Doesn't that not really sound like a good idea to you?
