  • RuneQuake (Shmack) Tidbits

I'm going to put together a guide for somewhat experienced/advanced RuneQuake players solely to highlight non-obvious features and effects of gameplay. Help out by telling me some things that you discovered/was told/etc that was not obvious. We can pretend it was months ago, if you want!

    Some goodies are:

Self Preservation protects against damage from an opponent's Vengeance Rune.

Impact Rune and Lumberjack rune increase damage by 10%

Athletic Rune decreases incoming damage by 10%

Vampire Rune doesn't heal from armor damage

That sounds good zop. A couple weeks ago I recently read through the rune guide on runequake.com and learned a bunch of stuff like this I didn't know. Make sure you mine that for info

In my combat guide, I was going to do a short thing on some runequake things. It won't go as indepth as you, but it'll include some basic rune stuff and how to use hook well.

I had no idea but the Bio Suit protects you from death spots.

If you have the enviro suit or rune, you can't get hooked by another player.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I'm looking for feeback to the formatting of the guide. I didn't forget- well, yes I did, but... in any case, give me your opinion:

            ---

            05 Rune of Environmental Protection
            Type: Defense

            Effect:
            1. Activate in water to be forced up and out of liquid
            2. Many sources of damage are nullified: doors, platforms, other moving level elements, nail/laser traps, fireballs (from lava), exploding boxes, fire-based weapons, Orb of Death Rune, Radioactivity Rune, Divine Wind Rune, Floating Spikey Cloud Rune, Rune of Firewalking, fire traps, death traps, Electric Rune, Tornado Rune, or falling, hook damage
            3. Some rune effects are nullified: Rune of Uncontrollable Jumping, Switch Rune, ice traps, Blizzard Rune, Rune of Repulsion, Gravity Well, Weirdness Rune, glue traps, Sonar Rune, or anti-pack traps
            4. You do not activate nail/laser traps.
            5. Lava and slime will give health, and you create healing sounds
            6. Do not need to breathe when submerged, and will not make a breath sound from emerging.

            Strategy:
Personally, I only keep it if radioactivity abounds. I find it rare that someone else is using it. The effects are the same as the envirosuit, so it's not instantly determinable by its effects.

            ---

            38 Rune of Athletics
            Type: Strategy

            Effect:
            1. Activate for a high jump.
            2. Breathe underwater longer (12 seconds normal, now 24)
            3. You can fall a bit further without damage.
            4. Your maximum health is increased by 25 (server can set differently)
            5. You will run/walk faster than normal.

            Strategy:
You: Personally, I don't keep the rune if another one is around. The high jump can be a good one-time surprise evasion.
Opp: There's nothing special to defend from this rune.

I used Enviro yesterday in DM6 and stayed alive for a surprisingly long while. I quickly topped 25 frags while my opponents had 2 !!

They relied mostly on traps so I was greatly advantaged... Level was full of fire traps, ice, glue, radioactivity, death traps, couple of tornadoes and so on... and I could just walk around and concentrate on shooting while everyone was trying to avoid the traps or getting hit by them, making them easier targets. Too bad DM6 doesn't have any lava or slime, would have been a total blast!

In E1M7, I once had quad and enviro rune. I swam around in the central lava and shot rockets all over the place. It was a big FFA, and I got to 50 frags pretty quickly !!

Formatting of the guide? Well, you could use Microsoft Word and use backgrounds on each page. You could use the Quake Font (which is downloadable from the downloads section) to spice up your text. Add lots of pictures so the people reading it don't get bored.
