  • Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse

I just replaced my MX300 mouse (800 DPI) for a new Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse. I'm wondering if any of you use this mouse and what your thoughts are about it for Quake purposes? They give you weights so you can make the mouse heavier and it ranges between 50-5700 DPI. What is an optimal DPI setting for a gaming mouse for Quake?

    Thanks ahead.

My mouse goes up to 3200 DPI and I use the full setting. I did have to lower my sensitivity quite a bit obviously. Crazy how a decade ago I used a sens in the 30's, now it's 3.

Well, I get to demo it tonight. So beware.

OK, Last night I tested the g500. I didn't put any weights in yet...and I used the stock DPI which I think is 2000DPI? I had to drop my sens to 3 from 7. I started off thinking wow this is fast. Then I found myself getting lazy cause I didnt have to move the mouse near as much as I do my intillimouse. I do like it though. The shaft reacts much faster than the intelli even on servers i ping around 80. With the intelli it is like there is a huge delay from where my crosshair is to where the lg beam actually is (I guess it is a beam?) Anyway in RA I was able to find the heartbeat of the player (ask wolverine)

A higher DPI means the mouse is natively faster, allowing you to turn your sensitivity down while keeping the same speed, thus resulting in smoother mouse action and less "skippiness". You shouldn't notice it too much in Quake, but try handling a sniper rifle in BF2 for example.. you'll notice the difference real quick.

I have the Logitech G500 5700 DPI mouse and the Razer Imperator 5600 DPI mouse, overall I like both a great deal, I think the Razer's shape feels better overall.

The Imperator feels nothing like other Razer mice, it's more of a rounded shape like the Logitech mice, and it even feels alright in my left-hand despite being a right-handed mouse, I'm right-handed myself but I have friends who are left-handed so I pay attention to these details.

The G500 on the other hand just takes the G5 shape and runs with it, it's got the free wheel toggle (which I like for desktop use, scrolling is much less tedious) and all the other refinements of the G5 that one expects.

I use my two G5's (first and second edition respectively) and the G500 without their weight cartridges because I like light mice.

I haven't tried the macro features on the Imperator that I've heard about.

The Imperator is lighter than the G500 even without the weight cartridge, and the adjustable position of the thumb buttons is useful (not all hands are the same size).

I can heartily recommend both mice, the Imperator is a bit more gaming-centric than the G500 but both are solid, Imperator costs more though.

                  Tal,

I have that mouse and been using it for a while. I like it a lot better than the MX series. I used the MX518 for a long time, but I think the laser focus of the G500 is better. For DPI, I set it at the 2nd of 3 dpi settings. Not sure exactly what dpi setting that is (1600 DPI?). In the SetOptions I have it in the middle in terms of pointer speed and 0 for acceleration. In quake with dinput turned on my sens is 3. I find this to be very accurate.

I think I need a new mouse. My MX518 keeps crapping out on me. It like shuts off for a moment, and sometimes I get stuck with autofire on. Should I get the g500 or get a razer. The MX518 was fine for me, but do I want to buy another
