also would appreciate any help in getting better FPS under vista. i currently do 200 fps on a brand new pc when i used to do 400-500 on an older one (with XP) and a shittier graphics card. how does that make any sense?

what client, and triple check to make sure Vsync is set to _always off_ in the video driver software, like for example,in ATi (yay!!) Catalyst Control Center. If you have ATi,and dont have it,get it,then set it.

I'm pretty sure 200FPS is over the limit vsync imposes.

Your at every corner I turn lately Whilst you are correct, his information was at best vague. He's complaining about a limitation on his frames per second, I over looked that section about 200fps. What I postulate now,is why you bothered to spend your time on me,rather than a possible postive feedback suggestion...to omicron, and his delimma....

That's really the best I can do here. Pointing out that vsync isn't the answer brings us/him one step closer to solving the problem. He doesn't list any specific specs, what engine he was using, whether or not he was using different settings etc. His post was very vague.

Does 200 fps versus 400 fps grant you any special powers?

Even with Omicron's lightning gun aim, I doubt there is a any measurable gameplay difference between 200 fps versus 400 fps.

The human eye can't see a difference. Both are far above mouse sample rates.

And Omi didn't really provide any information to what client he is using so all you can do is guess, and guessing is quite pointless.

Peg speaks the truth. My Gigabyte GM-M8000 goes to 1000Hz, with the standard polling rate being 125Hz.
