  • A Thanks To The Community

A want to take a moment to give thanks to the community for supporting me in my engine development efforts and stuff like Universal Server.

It is obvious I've got both Pent and Quad right now, but that's only because so many different people have provided assistance to me and various shapes and form. It's a huge list. But development support from people like R00k, aguirRe, Metlslime and in the last year or so major assistance from MH and ongoing engine advice at Inside3D from Spike. And permanent moral support from Solecord, Phenom, MindzfieldX, Bam, Jackhole, RocketGuy, Lardarse, Peg/Polarite/Mr. Burns and co-development with the Quake Remake guys. And it would be unfair to not mention Team XLink, Ceriux and Downsider which are more involved with the PSP community than this site.

But even then, without support and trust from the hardcore NetQuake long-timers and the newcomers would make some of the upcoming things impossible.

I just want to say thanks to everyone because in these next 90 days I think I have the ability to move things up a couple of levels into entirely new territory, but it isn't really me that is making this possible.

If I didn't have the level of community trust that I have, I wouldn't be able to do the things I am about to do.

But it looks like in the next 3 months, this community is going to have every imaginable dream-list item someone could ever want. I do have Quad and Pent right now and I intend to use them, they don't last forever --- they will last long enough ...
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I'm surprised I'm not banned from quakeone.com yet!

I didn't do to much, just played CAX till it broke, then broke again, and again and yelled at Bam & R00k.

          But back on track...

I've been rootin for Quake 1 for almost half my life now (I'm 29! ) and i don't care how many Omicrons Paradises Kimps or Wolvs I gotta smack down, I'll be here till my WASD's don't work no more! Especially if I start seeing more Linux support (I restart pc into Windows XP to play with Qrack 1.90 sucks but oh well for now!). Also I'm sure a fully functional FREE Quake will be accepted nicely in the Linux community and possibly even get added to the universal repositories (1 click Quake download & install in Ubuntu..OMG That would rock!)

I'm what you call old school hardcore... I've seen MANY players come and go, and while the only recognizable face in the crowd today from my earlier years is Mindzykins a.k.a Tiff Tiff I'm seeing the community open up in many different ways and over time have seen A LOT of talented people help push forwards... and I'm glad I stuck around!

Baker you're not the only one pushn this 100TON wagon up hill buddy! You might be pushing harder then most everyone else, but you aren't alone!

Oh and Wolv I was just messn with ya in the paragraph above. You know I love you and your mom very much! <3

            Awww shucks...

In all honesty I would tend to echo some of the other sentiments posted above and say that, although a little thanks is always a nice thing to hear, it is us that should be thanking you. The support and trust you are getting has been earned as a result of your tireless well intended input to the Quake community over more years than you probably care to remember. Whether it be by your engine development, help and assistance or your contribution to this site, you are one of those few people like Peg, Pol and Sir Henry that make Quake a nicer place to be.

Please note: This doesn't mean we're engaged or anything

            Regards

            Monty

Well, nice to see you thank your co-contributors since u never did release a text (less it was one i ignored) that was packaged with proquake thanking these that helped you out.

                  ^_^

Eitherway, i appreciate the fact your up-keeping and updating proquake code, as it's the best and fastest client out there.

I'm not against any of the mods, they all have promise, i just don't like how, they are optimized to the creators hardware and are not (universal) friendly.

But, w/e that's comptuers for ya.

                  ~Cheers.

I've always said that while I may have provided some inspiration and motivation, Baker himself deserves full credit for picking up this particular stick and running with it.

I genuinely believe that we're now in the glory days of Quake engine modification, and that the previous 10 years were really just warming up. Deep understanding of the platform and a clear vision of where one wants to be (and steps needed to get there) are far more important than the cheap and flashy gee-whiz stuff we had so much of before. The next year or so should be fun.

I even don't have a 'right' to thank the community, but I do thank you all.
Who would say in 1996 that I would be playing this gem in 2010 when I'm 32!

There are many vocal residents, but I'm sure there are also 'freaks' like me who just enjoy and appreciate the efforts of engine coders, modders and mappers.
So even with not much of a feedback from them, be sure that they are there and like your stuff! After hours of stress in work, it's your engine/map that helps to mentally recover.

And I can't resist to add to what MH said. I irregularly visit other Q1 related sites and forums for some info and seeing Baker's passion in almost everything Q1 related must be very encouraging for others. Baker's LG is not a killing weapon, it seems to inject others with energy instead.

long story short, its nice that you'd wanna thank us, Baker, but in reality, its us that should be thanking you. You're like the big brother of the quake comunity. You, the modders, the server hosts, you all are the ones that have kept quake alive this long...quite literally, actually since we probably wouldnt even be able to play it anymore without Proquake and the other advanced clients.
