  • HALF-LIFE ALPHA Styled Quake Mod

The Wielder of the Hammer Begs that He Fight For Justice!

Anyway, I'm back. Currently, I'm going to ask a "What if?" or "Is it possibe?" or "Would anybody go for an idea like that?" question. Although doing Half-Life styled mods are usually limited to modding HL itself, I had been taking an interest in an HL mod for the Quake 1 engine. Why? Because I was fascinated by the earliest crude game efforts that were done for that engine (such as the classic Viking Gordon Freeman, who could pass as the Thor Hammer wielding hero for the original Quake conception). Considering the recent advancements in the Quake 1 engine, and considering the Alpha for Half-Life contained such grotesque potential, similar to the grostquery of the orignal Quake, I think it would be quite a feat to create a Quake 1 mod based on the Half-Life's crude beginnings. We could even bring in the flesh torn scientists, and the psychotic Barneys, and the Bull Chicken and Mr. Friendly. We could even create Quake 1 styled-sized bosses in the artistic vein of Half-Life's kitchen-accident alien monstrosities. The crowbar would look very interesting as a Quake-axe styled weapon, and homages could be made to Redneck Rampage (which I suspect the crowbar was borrowed from).
It would also provide an opportunity to create scripted sequences in the Quake 1 engine.

So, would this be a good idea, or a bad idea? Do you find it interesting?

For the final note, I'll make a prayer to the Elder Things: Ia! Shub-Niggurath!

Ahahahah, what? Half Life Alpha styled mod? Seriously, you want to make a mod of an alpha version of a game? Well 1. alphas are early versions of a game, they commonly have less features, more bugs and very crappy (unless they were working on an alpha for a long time), 2. there was no Half Life alpha/beta leaked out.

This isn't about modding the Half-Life alpha. If you read the post instead of just the thread title, you might gather that he was talking about creating a Quake mod based on the ideas of the HL alpha. Hell, even if you just read the title you should catch on to that much... HALF-LIFE ALPHA Styled Quake mod.

And if you read mine you'd know I was talking about this "mod". How can he make a Half Life Alpha mod? He'd need the actual alpha for that.

Doesn't sound like it to me; check the bold.

I'm pretty sure I'm right there, he's saying he wants an alpha-like version of Half Life as a Quake mod.

That looks awful, crap, I mean come on. Look at the models of the characters, their eyes are round and the headcrabs look like a pile of red puke. And he'll need way more shit than just a trailer to make that.

Alot of the beta content is actually in the SDK. Can get the "Pathereye" and beta Gordon in it.
