G'day guys.
I'm starting this thread to get some of your views as to why we all think that Quake 1 has stood the test of time and is still so popular among us faithful.
So, what is it about Quake 1 that has kept you coming back?
For me, it's two things:
The level design in this game (for the most part) is as close to flawless as any game I've ever seen. (I'm talking generally about the Deathmatch maps). Nothing in any of the sequels came close to macthing the original - I mean, the Q4 engine didn't even have water!
Secondly, the weapons. Everything about them is perfect. From the models to the damage they inflict. There just seemed to be a certain authenticty about them that just wasn't there in the sequels.
So, that's my two cents. What is it for you?
Vill.
