maybe you just need a range of ip's that vpns use for their services... it wouldnt be hard to ban any non legit ip addy... like non spoofed or whatever u call it now. if u wanna play quake do so with your real ip or dont play. etc. ban any free isp service ip's.. nobody uses those these days for playing quake cmon. its an old game.. if u play quake 1 ur a hard core old school gamer so you deff dont get in on non local high ping isps. and why would you? think about it.

if this was the late 1990's i would understand somebody in the us playing with a 150+ ping on a us server.. but not now and not in my America.

or ban any non euro or brazil ip/and or ping etc.. that is over 90 seems fair with a 150-300 spike threshold... and a block that prevents any unknown isp from accepting client requests.. take drastic steps until kimp is eliminated... the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few etc..

or or step up server so ddos, dos, or specific client or non client to server packets are limited and/or blocked and if blocked then auto ip ban... whatever it takes to get rid of it..

I'm fed up with the lack of control, it's coming down to whether keeping kimp out of Q1 is even worth the time wasted actually not playing. Kimp represents MY achilles heel,and I feel running around with this one vulnerability is becoming too tedius. Something needs to give. Anyone playing quake tonite at speaknow can vouch for how fn annoying it is. I noticed a lot of noncaring in-game lately,and this same no care attitude torwards kimps either presence or lack there of, is depressing.

skript kiddies have been around since the early 90's right around the time the internet was made public.. and quake came around alittle later than that but not much.. so obv we should be the most up to date on server and client security *imho*

yahoo chat dealt with the skript kiddies, by ex malicious coders making unofficial chat clients that block scripts with malicious intent and kept them up to date for even potential problems..eg. yahelite, yahzak,ymlite,y!supra, y!epic... etc.. the list goes on.. they focused more on security than on any other aspect and kept the interface simple.. maybe that will help idk.

so server coders, i recommend applying that same step in server-side releases of mods. idk if that will help but it couldn't hurt.
