  • WinQuake Software Players Identify Yourselves!

I frequently get into mini-conversations (arguments) when GL players act like there aren't any WinQuakers out there (WinQuake, Win ProQuake, Win JoeQuake).

I've seen enough screenshots and helped enough players over the years to know there are more WinQuakers out there than some people think.

Partial list of people I know who use software: Bank, GameFreak, Canadian Sniper, QuadRaptor, DeathKnight, Magnetar, Bam.
Some use it because they must, some use it because they like it better (Bam, Magnetar) and some use it because of circumstances (Death Knight has the right graphics card, but GL won't work for some reason).

    WinQuakers identify yourselves!

    /me uses legoquake

I have a client/server setup here where the server (faster machine) is headless and the client is an old notebook (sort of like a terminal).

I like this for too many reasons. Legoquake is OK for me. I know the id levels by heart anyway. I don't like colored lighting. I don't like new weapon models or shaft models (eek). I don't like transparent water or other gizmos.

Perhaps this is the right place to ask a question...

Baker, you're kinda proficient with .lmp file editing, aren't you?

I tried using some of the hud numbers from bugsy's site and they don't work... the conbacks and conchars do, though. The hud numbers are in .pcx format.

It would be SO cool if you (or some other quake artist) could convert one or more of those number sets so that they are usable in legoquake.

New hud numbers are the one thing I lust for...

In linux, some tools like AdQedit aren't usable, so my possibilities in this regard are limited...

I'm not too bad, I'm pretty solid with any type of graphics conversions.

I'll take a look at it when I get some time. See ... the thing is ... if you edit palette.lmp, it will mess up the monsters, etc. I'll see if I can find a screenshot of the results.

I'll take a look at your links and see what I come up with.

(Inside3D.com is a great place for these questions also, btw. I can't even begin to describe how helpful and knowledgeable those guys are. You can always IRC with most of them at irc://irc.anynet.org/qc ; Mirc download for anyone who needs it)

pshh ef that I use Ascii quake...

I 've been using gl ever since I got a voodoo2 yearrrsss ago (Diamond monster 3d II baby!!!)

though, when I was a linux junkie I had to play 320x240 since there was no cheatfree GL executable... I enjoyed software mode since its ALWAYS smooth, no matter how many processes I have running.

I could easily run gl quake, I just choose not to. As I switch from wqpro to glpro, I can tell a slight difference overall in gameplay. Maybe it's just my computer, but I never did get used to gl, nor did I really feel like switching.

I wouldn't call myself an artist, hehe ... I'm not teh Bank. The best I'm capable of is maybe drawing stick figures :d :d

Anyways ... I've converted some of those to GIF using the proper Quake palette and can be broken out into the 10 separate num images and saved as PCX and used in software Quake.

The first set would not have transparency in Quake, #2 and #3 should be.

Heheh, and when Bam has broadband he is a force to be reckoned with, mowing down elite players like dawgs.
