Last time I heard any news of it was 3 months ago, was the project abandoned?

What happened to Remake Quake?

Quake10Year is long gone I'm afraid. Kedhrin, the man behind the project, has moved on to Illfonic, the company that is now working on Nexuiz for consoles. Things happen I suppose. Theres plenty of retexturing/remodeling already out for Quake, the Rygel textures for Darkplaces in particular (closest thing to being what Kedhrin wanted to achieve).
I personally like a very faithful look to Quake. I'm a fan of retexturing and remodeling of course, but I'm very picky about them being faithful, maintaining that gritty Quake feel, whilst still being high-resolution. Only a designer of the same caliber as Adrian Carmack/Kevin Cloud of ID can truly achieve that in my opinion.
But anyhow, Q10Year is sadly, gone, as Kedhrin has moved on to other things.
Looking forward to Remake Quake by the way!Last edited by bta.monster; 12-20-2010, 10:02 PM.

I was using replacement textures for a while, but I decided to move away from it because it's really only good for ID1 maps. Lots of custom maps use custom textures... low res "quakey" textures... and they'll use standard ID textures along with those... meaning you get high res and low res textures at the same time, which looks really, really bad.e|------------------------0---------------

Quake10year was in multiple ways a failure ... an author can release unfinished works of an abandoned project. Yes such things are a choice and not an obligation, but the extended and multifaceted Quake community has its soul and he is not worthy of being discussed in such a context.
Likewise, the abomination of console Nexuiz should end up being a failure; it represents everything Nexuiz (now Xonotic in open sourcer's minds) wasn't supposed to be.
To the extent that Quake has served as a prism to open source works, what Kedhrin has represented in selfishness isn't even worthy of the 2 minutes I have spent writing this forum post. But I still think it needs to be said. Yes, maybe the good guys [LordHavoc] and the bad guys intermix for a while, this does not make bad guys into something else --- they are still selfish and ignorant fools. Whether this be understood today or at some future time is entirely beside the point. Except that I am here to make the point -- that is precisely my role --- whether wanted or not -- it is what I do.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.
So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Ah well, I didn't really know him personally, only chatted with him a few times. I wasn't trying to support him in any way with that post, just wanted to state what happened to it without negative connotations. Didn't know the reasons behind why Q10Year was abandoned, I just assumed that other things took priority... Though it would have been better for him to write up a reason why instead of just leaving us all hanging. I definitely don't like the idea of console Nexuiz, well, any fast-paced FPS like that just doesn't really belong on a console in my opinion. Just was stating what happened.
I haven't considered him a bad guy... but my opinion of him has dropped because of what happened to Nexuiz. I'm certainly not on his side with that one. I played Nexuiz quite a bit and was sad to see it go that way. People were apparently very upset with LordHavoc as well... I cannot see why however.
Good luck with engine coding by the way.. (p.s. an officially hosted NewDM server should be up soon... lots of great things to come around this Christmas)

It's being ported to the PS3 and alot of it is changing. Nexuiz (the open source project) has changed it's name to Xonotic and is moving forward. Warsow is the next best thing imho.
