Recently, it seems like servers without grappling hooks are making a comeback, which I personally like for variety. The ID maps were supposed to be complex puzzles to unravel, and really a grappling hook is virtually required for any kind of flow.
Up until recently, rocket jumping was pretty rare except on CA on DM3. Why damage yourself if you have a hook and there is really one 1 good rocket jump spot on DM3 (to upper level at water).
And since it is pointless to do a rocket jump on any server with a grappling hook, you don't see it as much anymore except the still frequently used DM6 red armor jump -- about the only RJ in Quake that pays off big every time.
Poll: Do you rocket jump? If not, it is just pressing jump and looking down at the same time. There is also a script in the Guides section that is excellent for beginners to use rocket jumps without needing any skills ... you just press a key.
