  • i have a question about releasing a mod

first time caller long time listener

after many years of not playing quake i discovered your site and have been enjoying all the hirez goodness.

i thought i would try navy seals mod and realized why i hated it back in the day[off center crosshair and annoying red dot].

i read some stuff today on how to mod the quake source.

long story short i realigned the aim to the crosshair and killed the red dot.

is it ok to release it or is it something just for me to use?

Feel free to release. The content isn't from a commercial product (like Quake 3, Half-Life ect)

You might want to release your changes via a source patch, provide a compiled progs.dat and a link to the original. Something this small might get confused with a new version of the mod?

You never know. You are, after all, posting at highly popular site for a game that was declared "dead" 10 years ago.

          Take that in for moment.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

As well, at a site that rivals that of a bad NFL team.

I'd say release it. Maybe with a filename and a README that makes it clear that it ain't a new official version of the mod.

              New releases never hurt.
