  • Quake Multiplayer for Mac

    Hello,

Oldschooler here (quake 1 TDM, Q1TF, M-Player / QW). I installed the latest version of ProQuake and the Shareware version of Q1 off this site but am having issues playing multiplayer. I get the "Connection accepted" prompt when I attempt to join a server.

From searching the forums I noticed some of the other downloads fixed this issue but I'm on a Mac, from my understanding only ProQuake works with mac osx.

    Any tips?

    thanks in advance.

    Ok

just realized I need to buy the full version for dm maps, etc. will this solve my problem?

also, I disabled my router firewalls so that shouldn't be the issue.

    anyone?

ALSO need to add I did not download ProQuake, I downloaded these two files:

      1. Quake Shareware For Mac (8.2 MB)

      2. Fruitz of Dojo GL Quake 1.09 (2.0 MB)

              Preference

Any preference between nQuake and Darkplaces? And for both of these do I need to buy Quake 1 from Steam? On the steam website one of the requirements is a Windows system which I do not have.

Am I going to be able to play multiplayer with a freeware version?

The shareware only has the first episode, so you'll only be able to join those servers that only play the maps from that episode. The steam version will work, provided you use an engine that works on a mac, based on the recommendations in this thread.
