And still yet, may have messed up. I was downloading some of the demos in the files section, most of them actually, and my silly ass self just started unzipping files into my id1 folder for later viewing. The first couple were .dem files, so I increased the unzip speed and decreased the concentration speed. One file asked if it should override the existing file already there. Well, being four beers into the process I just overwrote and continued on my merry way, thinking it was a file I had downloaded earlier. Well, an hour or so later I click joe quake for some demo viewing entertainment. Well guess what... Error... Couldn't load pak0.pak (gfx.wad) or something like that. Well that's great, Now what to do! Upon investigation of my pak0.pak file, I was amused to find that it had been overridden by one of the demo files (quake done quicker) I'd downloaded earlier. Now, being six beers in, I decided to search "the internet" for an "original" pak0.pak file to replace the one I so carelessly overwrote. Well, to make a long story short, I managed to find a replacement file. I put it in my id1 folder, as per the instructions, and things seem to be back to normal. I hope in a week my computer doesn't have the virus from hell or start smoking and blow up or some shit like that. I scanned the file forty ways from Friday, but we all know how that goes. What a way to start the weekend. I suppose an intelligent being would make a backup of their quake folder so things like this could be easily remedied.

You could grab a shareware pak0.pak and all good.
As for virus scanners, Micro$oft's Security Essentials is FREE and works pretty good.
On a side note how LEGAL is it for one to "DEICE" the shareware version and re-zip it for modern OS's??Comment
