    and then I see these ugly gloss textures, that make your Quake look like covered all over in plastic.
    QRP gloss textures are OK, they add glossiness only to proper parts (displays, for example).

    This plastic look could be reduced but i don't know the command for that atm.
    Just procced to lightning options, there is a slider there to rule glossiness (0 - no gloss at all, 1 - gloss by its texture, 2 - everything is glossy as plastic).

      Plastic look is due to using 'gloss mode 2' setting in DP options.
      I don't know why people enjoy all this HDR, bloom, gloss and too high offset scale settings.

      QRP textures look to me so much better without it.

          hi


          gloss mode 2 is to much...i use gloss mode 1.


          for gloss textures, i would say you need them to get a realistic lighting effect.


          look at how rygels set has gloss textures for everything...soft gloss effect almost.


          i made gloss textures for alot of the metal texture in moons set and the effect is nice.

          here is an example

          left is stock texture no gloss...right is 1024x1024 and has a gloss.

            I need to find some very faithful yet high-quality g_ and v_ weapon models/textures. Its irking me having to scour these forums and search google to find anything. How any new player to Quake would find anything here to is beyond me, without having to post a thread every time. Nothing against any of the content creators here in the slightest, I just think this needs to be organized much better somehow.

            Admins, please renovate the file section if possible. To me its very sad that all this high-quality stuff has to be uploaded to crappy sites like rapidshare/megaupload. Also, PLEASE use Quaketastic if your files are under the size limit.

            Anyway if someone could post links to some faithful g_ and v_ weapon models/textures, I would be thankful. I used to have some awhile back (years ago) but can't remember the names.

              If you want faithful weapons, there is no other pack than Moon[Drunk]�s for you

                Thanks Marsha. I don't think these are the ones I was using though. The pack I had contained a Supernailgun with the exact colors as original SNG, just more detailed and "gritty". The only ones I really like from this pack are the Grenade launcher and Shotgun. I suppose I will have to do some more searching though. Perhaps I will use some of these in combination with others.

                  I BET the supernailgun is what you were looking for
                  I used it myself for a loong time.

                        Those are some fine looking weapons made by Primevil.
                        I think Moon[Drunk] and Primevil are brothers
                        They are both amazing artists and keep it faithful all the time.

                        Yes it is the correct cvar.
                        But you do not need to go into console for this if you want.
                        You can change it in the options menu as well.
                        Go into "customize lighting" submenu.
                        There is the slider for "gloss mode" (value "1" is default anyway).
                        But Rygel�s gloss textures are so strong, that even with "1" you will have a "shiny" - "wet" looking plastic-Quake.

                        But now enough of this. Some people like it, so it is all good !

                          r_shadow_glossexponent

                          to 128?
