Which engine...

Ive just re-installed QUake, and im using Proquake engine right now. I used to have a nifty program in whihc i could choose the engine. I don't have that anymore and in this engine, the game's animations are really slow, it makes the game boring...

My question is, which engine should i use and how do i switch to it?

just install/place a different engine somewhere and drop your entire ID1 folder in the engines root folder. Suppose you had the darkplaces engine in C:\DP_QUAKE, the ID1 folder would be copied/moved to C:\DP_QUAKE\ID1

Edit: as far as which engine to use you should just try them all (probably starting with Engine X or Darkplaces {opinion})
