Fire/Lava Maps?

Hello people

Your friendly Quake noob player here I've just completed Quake and i'm playing it on Hard now + finding all the secrets that i missed.

The thing is that i'm looking for some cool fire lava maps for Quake to play on the Darkplaces engine. Anyone got suggestions? Or basically some cool maps like Dimension 3 in Quake. With the Catholic theme. God i loved that Dimension. So freaking awesome. I hope i'm posting this in the right section and i will be very delighted for reply

E1M8 , Ziggurat Vertigo

I never fully understood how to access it via "In-Game playing" , so I recommend just

the map is tough going straight in with just a SG though

If you like the Catherdal windows , try playing a map with the rtlights pack in your id1 folder and the option for rtworld turned on in the dp menu. Some of the maps like e2m2 will put up some very interesting light shining through those windows to make it look more real.

Lava maps are e1m7, e1m8 and End. E3M3 or E3M2 may also be some levels to check out for lava, but outside regular ID maps I dont recall to many additional aftermarket maps that make alot of use of liquid.....by that I mean , water, slime or Lava in any great extent to the degree like E1M4 and E4M1 make use of the water for example.

Hmm explain where this cave is? I have played every level and killed every monster and found every secret but im with mindz, never could figure out how to access e1m8 without using console.

its easy wicked, lemme give you a quick walkthrough how to find the secret portal


first, go to that part where you have to hit those 5buttons on the floor before the end.
after you push all 5 buttons, on either side of the elevator walls open.

if you go down there , you will drop to where the ogres where before in the part below. in each part on either side is a button on the wall with a rune on it. press both, and quake will say that a secret has opened.

then go back to the water part where theres the dock with the silver key, and swim to the right side of that underwater castle part, and there you will find a huge part in the wall has opened which leads to a cave with the portal to E1M8

Damn, I never thought I would know a lil quake "in game" secret that Wicked/Mindz didn't know. Well, actually I never thought about this period, but you get what I'm saying.

at certain angles you cant see the hole at all, even if you are looking dead at it..as I remember it. However, I might be thinking of an identical underwater hole in SM64.

Ok im goin to explore next time im at home.. Sadly i never found it after years of exploration. This is indeed why we need to play other maps then just DM3!!! But we all know people wont do that, or should i say majority will not.

Already played Ziggurat Vertigo. I discovered that secret on my first playtrough lol. I didn't even know back then that it was a secret map. That map was the shit for sure. I tought it was something wrong with my settings when i jumped on that map

I also never could beat Q1 as a teenager, and until I got the internet and searched on how it was done. (That damn spikey thing on Map end looks nothing like a portal exit HEH)
