Yeah, place them in c:\quake\id1\textures. I believe the current stable build (Aug 2005) of DarkPlaces only supports TGA, but some newer builds support PNG, I've heard.
So you can go to the Quake Retexturing Project (http://facelift.quakedev.com) and download their TGA set and put them in c:\quake\id1\textures and you'd be all set.Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. It also supports custom skins, but they need to be renamed differently...
And it supports more than TGA. It supports PCX natively as well, and JPG and PNG are supported with the correct libraries (that come supplied)16:03:04 <gb> when I put in a sng, I think I might need nails
