Am I trying to enlightnen you or are you just trying to prove a point that you dislike Windows?
I don't dislike Windows, I dislike .NET. I'm not arguing that you can't make a good living off of it.
My thoughts on .NET would bore everyone else here to tears.
Sometime I'll explain it to you in IM or something.

sad to say, I didn't get to hear the big 15 minute rant I was hoping to hear
The reason there are so many job opportunities for .NET is because any company using .NET will find that .NET is so damn fragile that it constantly needs repaired/upgraded. This fragility causes the need for a lot more employees.
Plus: A company cannot "freeze development" using .NET because upgrades can and will break compatibility from time to time. Constant maintainence.
Say hello to training courses! *Drain corporate coffers some more*
I love .NET in the sense that it fleeces stupid companies and drains their pocketbooks.
Smart companies like Google or other companies not in the .NET loop can destroy .NET companies via competition because they have lower costs of operations.
.NET is great because it gives clay feet to companies wishing to compete with them.
This is why all the jobs are getting outsourced to India, by the way. The IT budgets cannot sustain that level of B.S.
IT was supposed to SAVE money, it doesn't with .NET.

It is not in Microsoft's interests for .NET to be stable or secure. Microsoft needs to sell training courses, books, upgrades and new tools. Companies with so many .NET employees and so much resources invested aren't gonna be switching so Microsoft doesn't need to worry, they have vendor-lock and can do that.
It's a funny joke.

Sorry Baker and Sajt. I like Linux more then Windows but I'm not part of the whole Microsoft is Evil, use nothing but Linux fad. All seems silly to me. Microsoft is a monopoly and Business is a monopoly. The two mix and that's how our system works.
But I'm done arguing against two strangers that are anti Microsoft. I've done almost everything in .NET 2.0 and never ran into any problems. It's your loss, not mine.
in the wise words of Phenom: STFU NOOBIES MIKROWE SOPHT OWNz TEH YOU!! for not having faith Bill Gates is going to steal their first born and turn him into a Microsoft intern
I never said Microsoft was crap. I may or not hold that opinion but it's irrelevant. What I said is .NET is crap, which I am absolutely sure of! Tralala!
I don't like Microsoft anymore, but I used to. I think Windows is the best operating system; Mac OS/X is nice but it only takes 3 or 4 days using it to see that it is not refined enough for a veteran Windows users.
The reason I don't like Microsoft:
1. 6 years of sitting on their hands while IE ActiveX exploits and Outlook ActiveX exploits crippled tens of millions computers with spyware and viruses. They didn't even bother to get serious about fixing it until 2004 when FireFox came out.
2. DRM. Since Windows is the best operating system, I don't like the idea of Microsoft's "Secure Computing" and Digital Restrictions Management where "your computer" is no longer "your computer." Sorry!
Some argue this is already true with Win XP, but I don't install new hardware often.
3. Microsoft wants to get into markets for the money, not to do a good job in them. They see $$$ in search so they want to compete with Google, but MSN search generally sucks. They see $$$ in music and want to get into that and do a crappy job.
That is not the Microsoft of the old days which did Windows 95 and Windows 2000 because they wanted to be "the best".
And, all of this has nothing to do with .NET. I wouldn't want to write any software that so dependent on not only the .NET framework, but a specific version of it. It's not portable. Which is why no companies are stupid enough to make .NET applications and distribute them, it is all C++.
Corporations exist to waste money, I'm glad that you (Sniper) can make $$$ in .NET ... they might as well waste it on you.
Existing .NET code written today will probably NOT run on a computer 5 years from now and 10 years from now is an absolute guarantee.
That is the scam. And that is why there are so many .NET programmers.
You may or may not have concern beyond whether or not you are getting paid to do the .NET stuff, and if you don't -- that's natural and common in any industry.
I'm just saying .NET is laughable in any sort of medium to long range time frame.
It's also very funny to me. Just remember that all those expenses companies waste on maintaining code that could have been written just once flow through to the consumer (you) and this pointless maintainance (.NET babysitting) can be done by anyone anywhere (India).

I brought up the whole Microsoft thing because there's the chance you're being biased. Just something I pointed out in the open.
.NET 2.0 is pretty damn stable. I've never had a costumer need maintenance on the code I write as I have no major bugs. If people are telling you that they are babysitting code (they must, you know so much) then they made the bugs on their own. If you encounter a problem (which I do), just read up on it for the fix.

I'm being insulted by an anti-Microsoft fanatic who I doubt knows much of anything on the IT Industry past/present/forcasted future. You hate .NET, I know that. No need to tell me why because I'm not going to bother to change your opinion. But the facts are already out there.
As for mocking my occupation, I do more than .NET. I've done a lot of C++ and System Admin(Linux and Windows Server) but I did my research and .NET and Java are the hot technologies right now. I enjoy my work and I enjoy change.
