  • Content replacement "test" level, cool?

    Okay, I've been going through alot of files and stuff figuring out how to make Quake look how I want it. You know the routine, d'load, install, run, try to find good lighting/test area etc etc rinse and repeat. Over and over right?

    Well, I was thinking what if we had like a "showcase" level specifically tailored just to test out features?

    It could have an "armory" area with target practice and armor selection. Also a "hostiles" area for monsters and gibbing?

    Other ideas as well with varied light sources of course, the point of it really.

    Anyway, what do you think, YAY or... nay, whatever dude! Hehe

      That is a good idea. All the monsters in a showroom behind glass (so they aren't seeing you or attacking you)

      Quite a neat idea.

        I read your post before you edited Baker, I didn't mean "on the fly", as I think you have figured out.

        Just a level, or levels linked in succession, designed for checking out how things look/work. While I was surfing the forums got a few other idea's...

        A teleporter area, a caustics area, water too? With todays high limit engines is it possible "all" of it can be contained in one map or need to be broken up?

        I think this might be my first thing to produce

              i like this idea alot! i remember there was a map for doom with this function in mind, and one for quake would be great!

                I miss Shub Hub, even though it would be outdated to shit now...... It was definately "outside the box".

                You could even ride a fn VORE ROLLERCOASTER on it bro..............

                  I've only helped others mod games, so I know a little editor/game wise! But I really want to make something this time. I'll use this as a start/"learning the tools" phase and see if I contribute something cool afterwards...

                  I see and read sooo many awesome things that the modders here and elsewhere's do, that I have these idea's running around about implementing this or that sooo, wish me luck! Hehe

                      I didnt understand properly what you were suggesting initially so I didnt respond.

                      This is actually a great idea. And would likely be put to use.
                      When you finish make sure you put it somewhere easy to find so I can poiint people to it
                      if its the right tool for a job in question.

                        I'm still getting the tools together and setup(research mode). As soon as that's done I'm going to sketch out a layout first and then fire up an editor and get warm and cozy with it :-P

                        I'll post here(@quakeone) if anything substantial is worth posting of course.

                        I was just tired of trying to remember where certain "assets" were in Quake, as I was trying out quite a few mods(textures packs, skyboxes, models etc), and kept having to remember which maps had what... that's when the idea hit me!

                        Wouldn't it be nice to have a map to jump into that had it right there with no searching... yes, yes it would!

                              neat, thanx for the link to those test-maps. those'll come very much in handy.

                              very usefull to have, such maps, to check how everything looks if you make changes, and dont have to go search in which map a specific model or texture is used.

                              kinda often wondered why quake didnt have a map like that
