Actaully there are a total of 4 gib sounds in quake.
Quake's 'Player' will use the standard 'gib.wav' on almost every 'gib' event.
sound/player/gib.wav; Phonetically written: ''PAWQ--QWOL--GLQKIE!!! ''
sound/zombie/gib.wav; Phonetically written: ''BMHH--BMWWHH--GLRR--GHLL--CHDDDTTRUMPPP!!! '' (This is often followed by several splashes of gibs through water which can be confusing but adds to satisfaction)
sound/player/udeath.wav; Phonetically written: ''ERRRGHHH--GHLLRRSHPHLGHTLL--PHGHLLLL??! SHLPUA..! ''
sound/player/tornoff.wav; Phonetically written: ''TGRR--TGKK--TGCKCK!!! ''
I find that the standard player gib sound has the same familiar ring to it that never gets old whereas the 'telefrag gib' sound never loses its flair at one-upping the standard player gib sound.
Any time a player is gibbed via telefrag the 'udeath.wav' one will be used as opposed to the 'gib.wav' one...
and that 'tornoff.wav' one is used in cases where a player is 'gibbed' per se by wrongfully disconnecting...
by either trying to exit the level when 'samelevel' is on or losing connection to the point of lagging out off of the server while playing.
Though it seems to be really only used for when a player just plain disconnects nowadays.
It might be cool to program into a mod different 'disconnects' for players... a more dramatic 'sigh' of sorts for when a player disconnects more legitamately (maybe ''sound/demon1/ddeath.wav''? ) and have the player's body actually gib if they lose connection or try to exit the level when it's disabled via 'samelevel' cvar... using that 'tornoff.wav' one then instead.
