E4M2: Tower of despair. When I was 9 that level scared me to death (I even had a nightmare about that level ahahah)

I'd have to say my favorite levels are in no particular order,

          E1M8 - Ziggurat Vertigo
E2M3 - The Crypt of Decay
E3M2 - The Vaults of Zin
          E3M4 - The Wind Tunnels

E1M8 was really cool the first time, it was low-grav so it made grenades super fun.
E2M3 I thought the central tower was cool, and the overall architecture impressed me.
E3M2 as a kid playing this level, when i saw the key and tried to get it I was surprised to see it fall through. I used to always look down through the tiny slit and see it, thinking there was another way to get it from the beginning.

E3M4 is probably my favorite. I love the wind tunnels, It was such an interesting idea. I would love to see an expanded wind tunnels map with more twisting rides.

Hell, I love all of Id's maps. And SoA had some good ones too. My least favorite maps are probably the base maps - but i still love them too. It could be just because I've been making base maps and I'm nearly sick of them

Quake's level design is a good example of why a lot of games suck now. Everything tries to be too realistic, and make sense of everything. Quake's levels are way more interesting then most things, even a lot of RPGS - which is sad because we see so much less creativity in new things.

That isn't a single player map. But if interested, I -- and half of the func_msgboard peeps -- could tell you how to make it so. The mod is called dmsp, where you fight waves of monsters that spawn at the multiplayer spawn points. Does it rock? Oh yes, it does.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

SuperDuper DMSP Quake - Planet Quake
SuperDuper DeathMatch Single Player Quake 1.21 Thanks to aardapel, per-kr, bengt and many more thanks in bondo30.txt This version adds a few maps, removes some unused maps, and adds a special surprise on hard and nightmare skill. Most of the bugs have been smashed. BEST VERSION EVER! Now you can start a game from the multiplayer menu because there's a working start map! Description? How shall I describe SuperDuper DMSP Quake... Did you like Doom, when the monsters creeped up on you and you crawled down the last map of Episode 1 and knew two Barons of Hell would be there waiting for you and you faced certain death, but you went forward anyway? Did you play Quake over and over on e1m3 when the shambler popped out in that strange atrium and rained down lightning on you, only to kill him and have another immediately appear in his place? Well imagine the multitude of Doom monsters, only now they're Quake monsters. Only instead of one measly soldier who fires a shotgun once every 5 seconds, he fires his shotgun 4 times, and then switches guns and fires nails at you. That's skill 0. In normal skill you meet the shambler again, with more than 3 dozen monsters in a combination of wizards, knights, soldiers, and two different types of enforcers: one who alternates between lightning and plasma, and the other between rockets and a flamethrower. In skill 2 you'll meet ED-209 from Robocop fame, alternating between a chaingun and a rocket launcher as powerful as yours. You'll also meet the Baron, the death knight who now fires flame balls at you that light you on fire, and the Super Shambler, my own creation: twice as big, twice as strong, who now shoots a multitude of exploding fireballs at you, and if you get too close, will gib you to bits in one swipe. In skill 2 you'll fight eighty monsters on each map. I've never even tried skill 3. But you have guns, lots of guns. Chaingun, heavy chaingun, flamethrower, explosive shells, nuclear weapons, a death blossom (from The Last Starfighter), and more. Bots will help, if you want. JOIN US. The story: Quake has launched an all-out mega ass-kicking assault on earth and everywhere in the freaking galaxy. You have your shotgun, blazegun, nailgun, grenade launcher, devastator, lightsaber, twin chaingun and God knows what else. As many ass-stupid bots as you can handle, I guess. Use them. You'll need to. You have a ten-second head start before Quake sends the whole damn invasion force against you. You have a few advantages: 1) Guns, lots of guns. And rocket launchers, and nuclear weapons, and a lightsaber that shreds and other weird stuff to kill with 2) Powerups including a jetpack (hold jump, it looks like a flame and is only on a few of the bondo maps), quad damage, pentagram of protection/double damage, and the ring of ammo (regenerates ammo). 3) You have super healing powers and regenerating armor like Wolverine and Master chief Get out there and kick some Quake ASS! SuperDuper Quake mod - Mod DB If you want to edit the map rotation, you need to edit combat.qc in .\source Some of the "bondo" maps have coop starts for you and the bots. You'll need those. When you're not in those maps, the game will automatically spawn in dm spawns so you can use any deathmatch maps. Impulses 9 Cheat 30 Chasecam 87 keys 89 change skins 92 hologram 10 change weapon type 95 taunt 96 flare 200 add bot Bind a key to "+hook" to use the grappling hook I've always tried to keep the filesize of this mod small, but I just can't do it anymore. The mod is a pain in the butt if you have to manually enter a mapname every time you finish one, and I'm sure few people are eager enough to hack the QuakeC so I put all the maps in the archive and uploaded them. This file also has two different enforcers: a lightning/plasma enforcer and a flamethrower/rocket enforcer. Other than that it's pretty much the same as Beta 4.5. I recommend BengtQuake or DarkPlaces. To install, unzip to a subdirectory in your Quake folder named "sddmsp" and run this at the command line: glquake.exe -game sddmsp -listen 8 +skill 2 +coop 1 +map bondo06 If you change "coop 1" to "coop 2" you start off with all the guns, and can use the grappling hook. Bind a key to "+hook" to use it. coop 3 forces every client (and friks) to use the lightsaber coop 4 forces the proton storm superweapon "skill 0" and "skill 1" enable 60 smaller enemies "skill 2" and "skill 3" enable the super shamblers, more monsters, and more spacious maps (80 and 100 monsters, respectively) Hit "b" once to add a frikbot. "c" is the default key for chasecam "s" changes your skin mousewheelup changes your main gun mousewheeldown changes your alternate fire mode

Hmmm will have to get that. I've always thought of adding in the DM maps as secret maps for Single player. Basically on a normal SP map put in a special entity that when touched will exit and spawn you to a select DM map - and then the DM map would have the same entity to exit the map. Was considering this in my mini-mod so you can get bonus weapons (QTest and Mission Pack) to use in later levels in normal Quake maps.

I will have to download this when I get home I've always thought they would make great single player maps with some tweaks (adding a door to another room for exit). Waves of enemies works though.

It seems that "Super Duper DMSP" is different from "DMSP". I just tried out "dmsp" and it was simple and alot of fun. But reading the description of "super duper", it sounds like it strays too far from the original for me. I may be wrong though.

For some really odd reason I've turned into a total e4 junkie lately. Top of the pile right now must be e4m6 - the Pain Maze. The gameplay in this one is just astonishingly constructed, and it really rewards intelligent and creative strategy (and punishes you - hard - if you just madly rush in with all guns blazing).

Also loving e4m8 and e4m4, but it's all great stuff. Map architecture may not be up to the same standard as what went before, but gameplay (including replayability) and - especially - lighting are completely unsurpassed in all of ID1.

                            Perennial favourites include e2m7, e1m4, e3m3, e3m7, e2m6 and e2m3.

For SP maps in DM - House of Chthon. I love that map in DM. In Co-Op with a killable Chthon - it's alot of fun too. Especially if you mod the map with some ent's to throw in a couple "Lava Men" from the Mission Pack too.

For just straight unmodified SP play though. E2M6
