    Map Name: Subterranean Siege
    Year Made: 2002
    Review Link: Underworld Reviews

    Download: sm36.zip at PlanetQuake

I didn't play this map initially because the screenshots of the map at the Underworld site didn't look interesting to me, despite the high rating it had (18 of 20).

Eventually I ended up playing the map months ago because I was testing something and downloaded something at random.

Truth is, this is a outstanding map and incredibly well designed. It is also a huge map. It has tiers of levels and many instances of "you can see where you want to go, but can't determine how to get there".

And: It has Zerstorer mega-enforcers in it.

(Note: I couldn't find this map in the Quaddicted archive )

Great map, gameply was awesome. I prefer the medieval dungeon maps, but when the base maps are done this well it doesn't matter.

There are so many generic base maps that, out of instinct, I usually tend to not notice them. That was a mistake in this case.

This one was excellent and kept me compelled to play it.

I didn't like it very much. Perhaps I need to re-play it though.

        There are better base maps:

        sm82 Rubicondom
could And all that could have been
        apsp1 The final threat

plus some good dm maps (no, not DM3).

as well as really good base maps from id, hipnotic and Beyond belief.

In my opinion, all other speed-chainmaps were better than sm36. sm32 is actually outstanding.

SM82 is awesome. Could is awesome.

"could" is on RocketGuy's RQuake server and I love that map to death. SM82 couldn't go on the server due to too many entities

I don't remember apsp1 very well, maybe I'll have to check that out a again.

          Another very good base map.

            apsp1 is motherfucking awesome.

It ignores the law that you can only have grunts, dogs, and enforcers in base maps. Couple that with cool rooms and a twisting turning overlapping layout with good secrets... Mmm.

Most good base maps ignore that law. sm82, sm36, could, apsp1, even e1m1quoth.

yea in some of the Terra maps, they put in fiends and shamblers is places where they could be using them for experiments. Or in waste dumps and garbage chutes

Well Im speaking more of fiends, shamblers, vores, and spawn. Along with ogres, the normal base cast, and mega-enforcers.

Id like to see a rotted out base map, and in the most damaged and decayed parts, the Quake universe taking over, with its wood, stone, grime, and pentagrams.
