Map Name: Rubicondom aka SM82
Year Made: 2005
Authors: NotoriousRay, RPG, PuLSaR, Zwiffle, distrans
Review Link: Underworld Reviews
Download: sm82.zip at PlanetQuake

Lately, it seems like a lot of different people have been talking about SM82. It seems to come up quite frequently in conversations.
SM82 was apparently a map assembled from 5 different maps. To me, this is one the best base maps of all time.
Unlike some of the others maps that have been summarized in this section, there isn't really a distinguishing feature of SM82 to point out.
That being said, there is something very unique about SM82 that is difficult to put into words. I liked the structures in the map, it has a lot of character.
As you progress thru the map, you get a sense of accomplishment as you will reach 5 separate terminals which will tell you the name of the author for each separate map section. It feels like reaching checkpoints.

Footnotes:
1. Yes, I included the author names finally. 2 weeks ago someone registered specifically to voice a complaint that I didn't mention the author's name in a recap and that wasn't the only one. I wanted to keep it basic and only do map name, year, and review link to encourage visits to the map review sites, etc. But I guess I'll include the author's name now, even though those were always 1 click away. I feel like I'm "copying" everything from the review site now, which is what I was trying to avoid before by not including all information.
2. Yes, that distrans. And, btw, that map has been fixed on quake.intertex.net:26002 and is now the correct version :d
3. Oddly enough, SM82.zip seems to not be present at leveldesign.org downloads or quaddicted?!??
4. About 8 months ago, when spawnpoint.org --- the predecessor to leveldesign.org --- had the domain expire and it was taken. I actually started a thread about this map not being available on Func_Msgboard. I had accidentally deleted it and couldn't download it again! How many maps are good enough that not being able to download it would prompt someone to start a thread? It is an oustanding map.
5. The map name Rubicondom is a play on words of the map Rubicon, by Metlslime (aka John Fitzgibbons) who runs Func_Msgboard and is the author of FitzQuake. Rubicon is the map that has a secret map named Eagle1 which was discussed last week.
6. In the Eagle1 post, the readme for Rubicon did say it was his final map for Quake. The readme and map were from February 1998. As distrans points out ..
...it was not, in fact, his last Quake map :d In September of 2005, he released another map.
7. This is already way too many footnotes!
